blue band around the trailer
I understand that there is supposed to be blue tape but since I don't know about that yet and want something in the meantime, I painted the band, rivet heads and all, and then sanded the molding that was oxidized anyhow so we could be sloppy with the paint. I did the tail-light casting and the big letters also. The letters were oxidized so I sanded across the blue sloppy paint but need to sand deeper to get past all the pits. I am tempted to use my belt sander but Lord help me if I slip! Here are shots of the band Index of /airstream/101010_Blue_line --Mike Diggles in Oakland, Calif.

I used Sail Blue Rustoleum spray paint for my stripes. Lots of masking with blue painters tape. I like how it turned out.

I'm wondering if it would be sacrilegious to change the blue color on the outside of our 73 international. Our tow vehicle is green and I think a bit of that same color on the rig would look good.

I always liked the ford blue that they painted their engines with.

Blue Paint works!
I used Rustoleum Royal Blue and it turned out great. I used Frog tape, make sure you take your time and get a good seal, remove immediately with a forward pulling motion to give a clean "cut". I did two coats on my 29' Ambassador and still have more than half the pint left.

Who cares if people don't care for your green paint?
FYI, I painted my trim RED.

I think the stripe around the middle (bellyband?) of my '82 Excella is tape because it looks like cracked plastic. I'm good with using paint to replace, but what do I use to remove the existing blue product?

That could be a painted vinyl strip and the blue paint is cracking and peeling away from the vinyl. The white stripes are a decal. If it is a vinyl strip, you can remove it and then paint the bare aluminum underneath. That's what I did with mine.

Looks like mine. Blue paint with a darker blue pin stripe over that. I have not tackled that yet. I will probably go all paint instead of pin stripe tape over paint. I don't think I would use cheap spray paint considering the amount of work required.

You might try an iron with a wet rag under it to soften the glue. I expect paint stripper will get it off as well but use the gel kind so it does not drip into areas you don't want stripped.

I thought the vinyl strip was either riveted or glued to the aluminum skin and that you had to remove the rub rail to remove it?

Wow, that Rustoleum "paint" is messy. Appears more like varnish, but mine was aluminum color, for a different project. Just saying, be careful with drips and splatters.
