Of paint and stripes
Typically, the only paint on an Airstream is the lower bannana wrap section and sometimes the white roofs.
But the blue stripes were decals or "stickers"
On many AS's there can be what is referred to as rubrails and beltlines, these were typically an aluminum extrusion that was riveted to the sides of the trailers. The extrusion has a channel in the middle. The channel was filled with a plastic or vinyl moulding. You can still get some of the mouldings form most Airstream dealers, Ebay, and I have even seen it at SOB dealers.
Some owners have replaced the stripes, (declas) with painted on stripes. I have even seen people paint the channel of the extrusion rather than re-insert replacement moulding.
