Beltline trim?

Hi all,

I noticed a loose piece of beltline trim on the street side of my 25 Safari SS today. Looks like the adhesive failed on part of the strip. I'm referring to the 1" chrome insert on the beltline.

It will probably be best to remove the whole strip, clean away as much of the old adhesive as I can and then re-attach.

The question is - what adhesive to use? Is something special required or would Vulkem do the trick?

I did a couple of searches but came up empty.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

hi kevin.

you can remove, clean and reuse...

but the fake chrome is gonna crinkle a little during the process.

it is a pia to remove the goo on the backside, getting it clean enough to reattach.

use 3m spray automotive adhesive in the can,

or the 3m trim adhesive in the red tube.

you can also buy the 1 inch insert by the foot from a/s...

it comes 'pre glued' with a peel off tape,

much easier IF you are doing a long piece.

i've also used 3m double sided adhesive trim tape (the gray stuff) to re-attach the end sections of this trim...

it works very well too.

vulkem or sikaflex isn't designed for this application,

recall they are sealants not technically adhesives...

cheers

Why didn't I think of that?

Thanks 2air'.

I'll measure tomorrow and call Airstream on Monday.

I wonder if they'll be kind enough to send a replacement piece free of charge since I'm still inside the 2 year warranty.

Thanks again,
Kevin

he's watching the game!

kevin,

i doubt they will send ya the trim under warranty,

but email them a picture, who knows they might! and really they should.

your dealer (at least mine would) really should cover this warranty issue.

so perhaps call the dealer too.

rock chalk jaaaaaaaaaaaayhawk, KU!

Smile Rub Rail Cleaning

does anyone have a proven idea what works best cleaning the rub rail fake chrome? I see the posts on the adhesive etc. (3M) I just want to get it OK on what is still on the trailer and the parts that fell off.
