At six years happy with exterior appearance

In my opinion the clearcoated aluminum panels have been fantastic. After six years of outdoor storage they look essentially new. I camp with others with similar age white box trailers and at this point the Airstream aging process has been much slower. The aluminum panels have been much easier to maintain than a fiberglass trailer.

I have very little of the filiform corrosion. I can thank this forum for that as I had a heads up right from the start. The panel edges and rivet holes are a natural starting point for the corrosion. I have sprayed ACF 50 or WD 40 regularly on the panel edges and rivets, especially when going to the beach. There is a line of rivets behind the awing arm which has not been treated and I notice several lines of filiform in this location. About half of the total on the trailer. I use Meguairs Ultimate Detailer on the trailer and wheels regularly. There is no corrosion on wheels. The license bracket is very corrosion prone and needs frequent treatments.

Anyway a success story with a trailer in southern hot environment, stored 14 miles from the ocean. Used in the sunny hot southwest.

Wish I could say the same. We travel 6 months of the year in our '06 CCD 28' and the other 6 months it is washed, waxed then stored in a completely enclosed environment about 30miles north of Houston, TX. Granted, 130K miles in 5 years is covering a lot of ground, but the filiform corrosion pretty much covers exterior door handles, tail light bezels and can be found on about 30% of exterior rivit heads.

At the end of the day the AS does what I bought it for: go down the road with little or no problems.
