Thumbs up Griot's Garage Customer Service....

POI on buying from GG...OUTSTANDING Customer Service.

Four years ago I bought a floor creeper from them.
I can be pretty rough on my stuff...two of the casters broke today while moving a heavy load,(no not me).

Four new casters on the way......NO CHARGE.

You get what you pay for...it may be a little more expensive, but for me it's worth it.

I'm headed to the Seattle area in a couple of days for 2 big solar installations. These are on SOBs, but so far, 5 of 6 have been Airstreams.....everything from a 2 panel system on a 19' Bambi with new Lifelines to a 400 watt system with new Lifelines, 2000 watt sine wave inverter/charger and extensive re-trailer re-wiring.

I will be stopping by Griot's home base in Tacoma. Probably a dangerous move that will ultimately prove to be a very expensive side trip!!

I'll keep you posted on any new goodies that I find at the store!

Has anybody tried Glare Sealant? How do you compare it to the Griots?

Question

The scuttlebutt I've heard most often....decent product, some swear by it, others give the company a thumbs down and the product a hohum.

I still use the Griot's Sealer and new Carnuba Paste Wax. Works well for me.

I think AS sells the Glare at the JC Store so I'm sure some have used it.

Ordered yesterday griots 6 inch random orbital sander - paint sealer - and some red pads

Did I get the right pads for the sealer on the AS?

Any tips for application appreciated

Take care

I use the red pads. Seem to work fine. Wash them out well when done.

Thumbs up

Pharm,

I also use the 'red' pads to apply.

When I first started with the G-sealer....I found it's real easy to apply too MUCH!!!

After the pad is seasoned, three dime sized spots will do a 6'X6' panel.
The sealer doesn't fog like a wax so it can be difficult to tell what you've done.
I use the rivet lines and blue painters tape to keep track.
I apply two 6x6 panels with the orbital, go back and wipe the first down with a microfiber cloth, do another panel, go back etc.etc.
When done, I put a microfiber bonnet on the orbital and go over the entire trailer.
Touch-up's done with the Griot's Spray-On Wax or Detail Spray.

Have fun....

Bob

If you are using just the paint sealant, then the red pads are correct. The orange pads are used for the various buffing/polishing compounds. Griots also makes a one step sealant that has a mild polish in it to remove light scratches. I would use an orange pad for the one step sealant. Griots makes an excellet product.

I have also found this product Car Wax, Car Polish, Best Car Wax Substitute – 5 Year Paint Protection System by 5 Star Shine Car Wax No More to be perfect for brand new cars/trucks/trailers. It's easy to use and the vehicles always looks brand new. I apply it with the Porter Cable orbital and a red Griots pad.

Groit's, in their never-ending quest for the best (and continual ways to lighten your pocket ) have introduced an even softer pad.....BLACK.

Yes, black is the NEW BLACK!!!

When I made my pilgrimage to the retail store in Washington, I came away with about $200 in stuff that I really didn't need, but thought it would be useful at some point. It is very difficult to walk into a physical store and not leave with something, after being able to handle every item that you have previously only seen in catalog pages......VERY DANGEROUS!!!

Anyway, the very knowledgeable sales associates there highly recommended the new black pads for waxes and paint sealant, along with #4 polish. I used this pad on my van (which now shows mostly vinyl wrap and very little paint) with the #4 polish and then the paint sealant, and the results were to be expected ...........FABULOUS!

Just love the Griot's stuff!!! Been using it almost since the first catalog that they came out with some 23-24 years ago...................

Even more dangerous is their infrequent Garage Sales, where they sell returns, overstock or damaged goods. They do this once every 2 years or so, at the Tacoma store. It's pretty damaging to the wallet, but you get some awesome deals...if you get up at 6am, and are in line by 7am for an 8 am opening.

Thanks for the tip on the correct pads, I cancelled my Amazon order for orange pads and replaced with the red. I used a Porter Cable orbital to apply (bought this at one of their garage sales).

Bought a creeper three years ago. snip.......oooop's repeat post.

I can't imagine what would happen if I was able to visit the Store in person.

I know Gene did....left a bit lighter in net worth but grinning.

I ended up ordering the plain paint sealant - I will compare next year with one step perhaps

How long do pads last - how many will I need? I have only 3 at this point

I got some of their microfiber towels as well - they are amazing! T-8 days

I'm still using the same ones I got 4 years ago.(2 of each) Just be careful around the sharp edges, don't bare down on 'em and wash them out good, you'll be surprised how much they absorb, keep as clean as possible.

Can Griot's products help with the oxidation of clearcoat? I have '89 Excella and is the norm for these beauties, the plasticoat is oxidizing off.

Yes...help. Most any protective product will help. Which one is best is very subjective.

I used a carnuba based wax on our 63 Safari, (pre Griot's awareness), usually once a year. I like to think it worked pretty well at controlling the oxidation.

Note it's the aluminum not the clear that oxidizes. Nonetheless some form of protection should help with the clear degradation.

Spent several hours today with the porter cable orbital, a red pad, a bag of yellow Costco micro fiber towels, and Griots one step sealant. Went on super easy and came off quickly too. Took my time to get the tops, and behind the rock guards. Trailer looks great and I feel tons better knowing she's ready to brave her first winter outdoors.
