Anyone other than P & S Clear Coating?

Is there anyone other than P 7 S doing Clear Coating. I live in the Houston TX area. I don't mind driving but was hoping for someone going west like Arizona. What about Oasis RV in Tuscon.

Thanks

Don,

What a timely post! I was told by my neighbor yesterday when we were talking about his Airstream, which I highly covet, that Oasis RV here in Tucson does do clear coating. You would have to check with them to verify this. At one time, there was a gentleman named Dick McIntyre in the Eugene, OR area that also did this type of work. I am not sure if he still is in the business.

I contacted Joe Pershing who is this owner of Oasis RV in Tucson and they will buff/shine and clear coat Airstreams. I send him some of pictures of my Airstream he quoted me a fair price to do the job. So we are driving over to Tucson in April to get this done. I am going with the original type finish which is not as shinny. The time frame to complete this is about 2 weeks.

Oasis has a great reputation and I am looking forward to working with them on this project. I will start a new thread as we get closer to heading out in April and provide before and after pictures. I will try to get some of the actual work in progress as well.

Andy/Inland RV also mentions a firm in NorCal or further north that does quite good work (for others interested in the subject).

Please post some before and after pics for us.

Here are some before pictures. The trailer was striped a few years ago and has always been stored in garage type storage.

I am doing it

OK after a lot of thought and discussions with Oasis RV in Tucson about polishing and re-clear coating my 1976 31' sovereign I decided to go for it. I Hooked up the trailer on Sunday morning and and left the Houston area and after 3 days driving through the mountains I am here in Tucson. I dropped the trailer off today at Oasis and felt like a parent dropping his kid off for the first day of school. If that old trailer could think I would guess it was saying whats going to happen to me now. It will take a couple of weeks to complete and I will post progress and before and after pictures after the transformation is completed. Wish us luck.

Arrival Oasis

Here are a few pictures at Oasis RV covering the day I dropped the trailer off and a few days later as they were removing awning, lights and the HA hitch to start the project. I won't be bale to take additional pictures until I return to Tucson next week to pick the trailer up.

Update as of 4/30/2012

The Airstream has been at Oasis RV since 4/18/2012 and they are making progress but are still a couple of weeks away from completion. Its taking a little longer than I expected but I have added a few extra things to do as well. Here is an updated photo package with the last 7 pictures taken on 4/30/2012. You can see the areas that they are polishing and the areas that have not been polished. They are also going to sand the roof above the upper rivet line and apply the white coating as well. Also if you notice they removed the large Airstream emblem on both sides of the trailer and will replace these with brand new emblems that Oasis still had in stock. Although I had painted my emblems (see picture 3) and they they looked good, the new ones are new out of the box that have been sitting in their parts bin for all of these years. They look great.

I will be back at Oasis around the middle to the end of next week and report the progress at that time.

Almost ready

I spoke to Oasis RV on Friday and they were waiting on the high winds in Tucson to die down and then they were going to do the final shoot on the Clear Coat. I am headed back to Tucson this coming Tuesday to pick up the trailer and head back home. I added a few projects along the way so that extended the time to complete everything. I had the top coated with the white finish, as well as buffing and clear coating my aluminium wheels. Also they did some interior work and some other odd and end jobs that I had been putting off doing. The last time I saw the trailer a couple weeks ago it looked great so I can't wait for the big Reveal next week. I will post more pictures after I get back home.

The Reveal

The polishing and new clear Coat project at Oasis RV has been completed and I picked up the trailer this past Wednesday in Tucson AZ and headed back to Texas. I have attached a PDF file that includes pictures of my 1976 31" Sovereign going back to when I bought in in 2000 showing before and after shots of how it looked with the old clear coat melting down the side of the trailer along with some pictures after I stripped the clear coat. There are also some more recent pictures showing how the aluminium had changed over the years after stripping the old clear coat back in 2000. It still looked pretty good but a few streaks here and there and the domes were getting pretty dull. Then starting on picture 14 I arrive at Oasis RV in Tucson. Pictures 15 through 21 show the actual condition of the Airstream on arrival. Starting with picture 22 through 37 you see the transformation taking place from removing the hardware and the polishing and buffing process. Then starting with picture 38 it is sitting back in my drive way as it did back in 2000 all polished with new clear coat. It looks really good to me. You will notice that it is not the brilliant shine as you see on a lot of the polished trailers since the clear coat produces more of a mat type finish. But that was what I really was looking for. Also notice the top with the white coating.

Really a nice bunch of guys at Oasis from Richard who did all of the polishing and clear coat work and Joe Pershing who has owned Oasis for many years.

Let me know what you think.

I am not sure, I had this done at Qasis RV and they provided the white paint/coating. They cleaned and sanded the top before applying and it looks to be hard type finish. Looks good.
