Our recently purchase Airstream, 87 34 Excella, we have learned has had the top painted previously. The sides are in great shape but the top is dingy/black. I would like some advice on having the top repainted vs restored to the orginal condition.
There is an elastomeric white paint made for mobile homes that probably would work . It is designed to reflect UV/ heat anf will expand with the metal. I'm not sure of a product name but it's easy to find.

I have the roof on my 77 painted white. It helped keep it cooler. You should find a good aluminum primer and then a flexible gloss white enamel. Properly prepared this type of paint job should last at least 8 years.
Hi tslanier--Try pressure washing the roof to get rid of the black. My previously black roof came out great. Even if you do paint it you will want to clean it as paint will not stick to dirt.--Frank S
