'65 Texas Plates

Anyone in Texas using vintage license plates on their AS?

According to the Texas DOT web site:

`Old' License Plates: If you own license plates that are the same year as the classic vehicle, you have the option of using old plates instead of new Classic specialty plates if the plates pass examination. The old license plates must be examined at your local County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office or a VTR Regional Office before submitting this application. The old license plates must be original plates in good, readable condition and have the same color scheme as the original Texas license plates.

Your passenger car, light truck, motorcycle, or travel trailer must be at least 25 years old.

Robin,This would be great.Do you mean you got vintage plates from Cooke Co. or you supplied your own?I found a set on ebay.The vanity plates are like $500 for 5yrs.from an aftermarket co. endorsed by the state.

I'm looking for some vintage Texas plates. Do they need to say "HOUSE TRAILER" or can the plain ones be used?

I had planned on putting vintage plates on my 345. June 2001 is the last month that Texas will allow plates according to Austin. I tried to get several plates approved but gave up since most of the #s of a 25 year old plate have been reissued. Before you jump in and buy the plates have your selection cleared by Austin

We just put '71 House Trailer plates on ours in Polk County 2 weeks ago -- no problem.

Don't need to say house trailer.They now should say travel trailer,(not 1018trailer as that is 18 wheeler)but they were just "trailer" in 65.They let me use House because I know 3 other guys who have.Numbers do need to be cleared.

Well, I just came back from the Ft. Hood vehicle registration office. The lady there called the Waco regional office and she was told "We have never done that for travel trailers. We can only do cars, trucks and motorcycles." I told her that I know it can and has been done. Can someone point me to the governing regulation?

Sec. 504.501. CLASSIC MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAVEL TRAILERS. (a) The department shall issue specialty license plates for a motor vehicle that is at least 25 years old. The license plates must include the word "Classic" or a similar designation, as appropriate.
(b) A person eligible for the license plates may instead use license plates that were issued by this state in the same year as the model year of the vehicle and are approved by the department if the plates are approved for the vehicle before January 1, 2011. The department may require the attachment of a registration insignia to the license plate in a manner that does not affect the display of information originally on the license plate.
(c) There is no fee for issuance or approval of license plates under this section.

(c) A person eligible for the license plates may instead use license plates that were issued by this state in the same year as the model year of the travel trailer and are approved by the department. The department may require the attachment of a registration insignia to the license plate in a manner that does not affect the display of information originally on the license plate.
(d) The fee for issuance or approval of license plates under this section is $15.
