What’s the STUPIDEST thing you have ever done pertaining to Airstream

I’ll go FIRST......

I told my wife that the 3” lift I just added to our Airstream....
“WAS THE LAST UPGRADE”

She now thinks I am finished tinkering.....

What Ronnie said in Post 1,three mods ago. And backing into a rock in the front yard and denting the rear bumper by thinking I could gently push it out of the way....

Mounting a DC generator under the trailer (in the spare tire well) to charge my batteries.

Because I thought it made sense at the time.

Selling my 30' Airstream "Silver Bullet" Motorhome.
As J.Morgan (above) stated. "I thought it made sense at the time."

Well, I have made so many stupid mistakes while rebuilding my trailer over the years, that I have named it "The Err-stream."

BUT...the #1 biggest mistake I made, and the one I see people make all of the time, is I bought a vintage "project" trailer without knowing thoroughly what I was getting myself into, and my expectations for a quick fix-up have been severely calibrated as a result!

Buying one to restore instead of buying one gently used.

Ferried to the Outer Banks to boondock on the shore 'away from it all'...had miles of beach all to ourselves....setup everything, enjoyed supper, went to bed, woke up at 3AM to strange noises, opened the door to find I'd totally forgotten high tide!. We had waves slapping the side. I panicked thinking we were permanently stuck in the ocean with no help around. Thank goodness I'd parked my 4x4 up the shoreline and was just able to pull us to drier sand.
Tides....duuuh....

Hi, on our nine day trip from Oregon to Southern California, while bringing our brand new trailer home, I tried to turn around in a parking lot and hit a parked car with my new trailer. I was later able to clean off most of the scrape marks and cover the rest with an American flag decal.

I placed a friend’s double kayak in the bed of our pick-up for our trip down to Key West. Plenty of room between it and my almost new 27FB...right? Sure, until I took a sharp turn & the tip of the kayak went straight through my panorama window guard. It could have been worse had it broken the actual window, but still hurt.

This topic is actually how my airforum name was born

First time out, calling for rain, setting up just as it's getting dark in a PA state park. The unit next door had a 'broken' awning, leaning down on one side. I told my wife they should get that fixed. Next morning, looked out the window, heck, all the trailers and motorhomes that had awnings, ALL of 'em, were busted on one side, crookeder than all get out.

So I go outside and our awning is just holding water, I mean, a lot of water. That's when the lightbulb went on, and I figured it all out. Dropped one side of the zipdee and off rain the water....luckily no damage.

Okay. Here's my most stupid error. It was taking a slightly-too-sharp right turn with my A-S Excella motor home to get around the side of my storage barn. Goodbye Mr. Right Mirror and Ms. Front Awning Strut! Damn! I'm glad I stopped as soon as I did!
Fortunately -and I still don't know how- there were no dents or scrapes in the aluminum!

Installed two $20 fans because I thought they were good, cheap cooling. Turned em on after install and couldn't stand the noise. Had to replace them with much more expensive (but quieter and extremely low energy) fans since I'd already drilled etc.

Which reminds me. Anyone want any barely used but slightly noisy 12v fans?

Well not everything I've done has been catastrophic, but a lot of little things, you know, just dumb stuff, like, can't figure out why the entire trailer has no shore power, picture running around like a crazed lunatic, plugged in to post, CHECK, breakers all on, CHECK, any burned fuses, NOPE/CHECK, disconnect switch use/store mode set properly, CHECK, batteries connected, CHECK.

Mrs. T., my lovely wife, says "is the breaker switch turned on at the post?"

First time out in our Airstream and decided to look for Bill The Kidd's grave. Ended up on a narrow back road where we needed to turn around. Pulled into a driveway and had dogs run up and bark at us. Hurried to get out of there and jackknifed the trailer denting both the segment protector and the Airstream and breaking the rear light on my truck.

Great start to Airstreaming huh?
