Songs for the road

Compiling a new playlist for ye old iPod...trying to come up with the best songs for the open road. Right now my #1 song is "The Airstream Song" by Miranda Lambert. Probably "Turn the Page" by Bob Seger too. What are your favorites?

John Denver's Rocky Mountain High, and of course Willie's On the Road Again, as you never stop visiting places with the Airstream.

These keep you both dreaming and moving.

Thumbs up

IMHO....not a bad cut on this album.

Another good "road tune"

"Heading Out To The Highway" by Judas Priest. Anything by Rush, but especially "Subdivisions." Anything by Queensryche, but "Jet City Woman" really works with it's "just a thousand miles, and I'll be there" line.

I'm guessing there probably aren't many heavy metal fans in the Airstream world. Fortunately I have a wife that likes Rush and the 'Ryche...haven't gotten her into the Priest...yet.

No sappy slow ballads or "tears in my beer" songs. No rap, either; I like my music to have a melody to go along with the rhythm. My tolerance for heavy metal is kind of low, too; too much of it sounds angry to me, which is not how I want to feel when I listen to music.

But if you're looking for specific recommendations for a road-themed music mix, you've got to include Roger Miller's King of the Road. "Trailers for sale or rent…"

And of course Nat King Cole's version of (Get your Kicks on) Route 66. Or Asleep at the Wheel's version.

And Chuck Berry's No Particular Place to Go.

Do not forget Roll Me Away by Bob Seger. It may be more of a motorcycle song but that on the road feeling is all over that one.

I had these ready to go the first time I towed my trailer home.

"Eastbound and down", Jerry Reed, from Smokey and the Bandit. And "Convoy", C. W. McCall

Lots of great versions of Route 66, including early Rolling Stones, and a version by John Mayer on the "Cars" soundtrack. Other rolling songs:

Takin' Care of Business, BTO
I Am Just A Rebel, Confederate Railroad
Tombstone Blues, Bob Dylan (Highway 61 Revisited)

Lots more rock songs make your right foot want to step down hard. Just a few starters. Charlie

So many good tunes to choose from.

Rock favorite, Deep Purple-Highway Star, from their album Machine Head.

Country favorite, Rolling Stones-Girl With Far Away Eyes.
