An Airstream can be considered an update of the bachelor pad; at least according to my friend the beautiful, but hapless, Hanna. She met this guy in Las Vegas and right away she says he offered to take to Florida. She piled her stuff onboard, but no sooner than had she gotten it stowed away he starts to put the hardwood on her. She gave 'im a good cuff and told him she "wasn't that kind of girl" (which she isn't). For his part, he looked hurt and confused and said he didn't know why she changed her mind. "I thought we were going to Florida" she said. Slowly a look of understanding invaded his perplexed, if oleagenous continance. "No, no, that's not what I said" says he. "Did too" says Hapless Hanna. "No" he says " I said that when you got in the Airstream I was goin' to tampa with ya." Hanna told me she's done with Airstreams for good maybe. I tried to explain that she might have better luck with a SOB type, but she said that was the trouble in the first place. Go figure.
Hanna says now that before she gets in a trailer with any guy again they've got to be hitched.

Seconded!
Great thread.
I'm not sure what Airstream's obsession with the twin beds was - do most Airstreamers not want to sleep with their significant other?

This is what I did. Pasted a picture of lover boy (in his favourite hat) right onto the front of that locker.
See! Pretty smart, eh?

FAN -
My apologies.... and newfound respect that a female would forsake her indoor bed for the AS bed for all these months.

Taking a break from the insanity for a moment...
At the time, families traveled in their Airstream, and there's nothing to kill a romantic moment like a squalling 4 year old on the other side of the curtain.
Also, if you notice, the front couch almost always opens into a double bed,for when the kids are away terrorizing the neighbors.

Well, sometimes I travel with other people who I most assuredly don't want to share a bed with. Like my brother and my daughter.
Besides, the twin bed layout does have the overhead roof lockers which support quite a bit of weight. With some properly installed Byam Hooks and a few turns of rope, the romantic possibilities are endless. With a queen you just have the air conditioner shroud and it's not exactly structural.

Hey now, I'll never be able to un-read that, you know.

We were at an International many years ago and the joke was if you had a good night you had to retighten the stab jacks in the morning.
Well there was this rather feeble fellow of about 90 in the Airstream in front of us and every morning he would slowly walk around the Airstream and tighten each jack a little.
It gives one hope for the future if you have an Airstream.

We like to think that our mid cabin twin keeps us limber. We don't want to risk breaking the gaucho mechanism.
Man, oh man, this thread is so much more fun than the "What's For Dinner Tonite" thread.
