Christmas and New Year's holidays are a week apart. If Christmas comes on a Tuesday, New Year's comes on a Tuesday.
What was the last year in which Christmas and New Year's came on different days?

Ok - if that wasn't the trick - I'll say 2015 because Jan 1, 2015 was a Thursday and Dec 25, 2015 will be a Friday. That's the last year they came on different days 😃
(And it will be 2016 next time, then 2017, etc... 😄

The trick is you're making us think of the Jan 1 AFTER Christmas but if we think of the Jan 1 BEFORE Christmas, every year is the last year they aren't on the same weekday.
If I'm wrong on this - I give up! 😃

Most people will think of the current 2 week period instead of New Year's day from the current year.
I'm going to have to come up with some tougher ones, just for you

Oval one mile track. In order to qualify for the race, the driver must complete two consecutive laps at an average of 60 mph. He drives the first lap at 30 mph. How fast must he drive the second lap to average 60 mph for the two laps.
