Only a white man would cut a foot off of the bottom of a blanket and sew it onto the top and think he'd made a longer blanket - Native American's observation about Daylight Savings Time

That reminds me of a joke.
What did the blanket say when it fell off the bed? Oh sheet!

There's a reason Hawaii doesn't do it--it's called latitude.

Arizona, not so much. I'm sure they just think it's neat to have to have three clocks on the wall at the Petrified Forest NP. Actually, I have no idea why Arizona does anything (or does not), except for pure contrariness. Weren't they late to the Martin Luther King party, too?

It's even more complicated: The state of Arizona doesn't do DST, but the Navajo Reservation does. (The rez encompasses a hefty chunk of Arizona.)

Lynn, that's one of the three clocks. The other two are NP time and AZ state time. The Navajo clock and the NP clock change on different dates...

Maybe we should eliminate local time zones entirely and go with Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) -also called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and and Zulu Time. For example, sunrise at my residence at 75 W. Long. is around 6:00 AM EST. This would be 11:00 UTC. It would also be 11:00 UTC in London, Bejing, and Moscow. Everyone would be on exactly the same clock. As the winter sun sets here at 4:30 PM it would be 21:30 UTC. UTC Lunch time for me is around 17:00. Just reset your brain and deal with it. It's only a matter of thinking about our local time in a new way.

The discussion of time zones may read as serious, but it can't be helped. One can either discuss serious topics frivolously, or frivolous topics seriously. It you discus serious topics seriously, that's boring. If you discuss frivolous topics frivolously, that's just silly.

Daylight Savings Time and even time zones are kind of silly things to have anyway, so it's hard to make them sillier by being flippant about them.

Though I must admit, Rodney Dangerfield got plenty of mileage out of time zones in his stand-up routine. "She was so fat— How fat was she, Rodney?— that she wore a watch on each wrist because she covered two time zones! Didn't get no respect at all!"

Long, Long ago, in a galaxy far away, I read in Readers' Digest (or was it the National Enquirer?) that Ben Franklin actually did "invent" he idea of Daylight Saving Time-----as a joke. I have no idea if that is true, but did read it someplace.

Fast forward a few decades and politicians/gub'ment/bureaucrats got hold of the "great idea". We all know what happened next.

That extra hour we got a few weeks ago gives us time to discuss time, thus a timely topic.

I'm for it, whatever it is, or should we resurrect the Argue Thread so I can argue with myself?

Am I the only one that sees a problem with this? It's the Hijacking thread! The only way to get back on course is to hijack the thread and discuss something else instead.

Hmmm…
We can't elect to discuss politics.
We don't have the moderators' blessing to discuss religion.
It would be naughty to discuss sex on a forum that's accessible to children.
Dang, with those topics gone, I got nothing. I guess we have to stick with discussing day-lite savings time after all.
