I've got mine. I got it from a friend, so I didn't have to know whether I lived in Colo. or CO. Maybe it was N.Y.?

Gotta stir the beans. Snowing and it's white! And I found an apostrophe.

Life is good.

Ah, but watching Jackie Robinson steal home at Ebbets Field in the early '50's, that was perfection!

We had the beans with a chile relleno dish. Barb cooks as good as Robinson stole home.

Well when you talk early 50s its a little early for me but I do remember watching the Detroit Lions Bobby Layne play. He was voted by S.I. Mag as the toughest quarterback ever.. Or watching Baltimore's Johnny U. with his black high top shoes hand the ball to Alan Ameche for a 2 yrs T.D. run to win the NFL Championship in 1958 at Yankee stadium. You could of heard a pin drop in that place after that...How about Bart Starr's Quarterback sneek in the 1967 Championship on the frozen tundra of Lambeau against Dallas....Oh yes theose were the days....

Boy that Walter Johnson could pitch! And he had to walk to the ballpark barefoot through five feet of Congressmen up Capital Hill both ways.

I remember when Abner Doubleday didn't invent baseball!

I think it was a dark and stormy night.

Gene

P.S. I think Robinson stole home either 6 or 9 times and it remains the major league record. I was in the upper deck right between 3rd and home when he did it. It's the most memorable baseball moment of my life at a ballpark although watching the Colorado Rockies lose a hundred or more games in Denver is unfortunately memorable. I don't want to talk about the World Series this year. Walter O'Malley was just voted into the Hall of Fame. That's a travesty and an insult to all fans of the real Dodgers of Brooklyn (formerly Brooklyn Bluebirds [before WWI], Brooklyn Bridegrooms [1800's).

My mother used to tell me one of her brothers played in the NFL in the 1920's for a team on Staten Island. He died around 1930 although I don't know of what—maybe football concussions? There was a team called the Stapletons (1929-32). Stapleton was a part of Staten Is.

Carlisle isn't on the list of defunct teams. Maybe it moved.

Here's the Wikipedia entry on the Oorang Indians:

"The Oorang Indians were a team in the National Football League from LaRue, Ohio (near Marion). LaRue is the smallest town ever to have hosted an NFL franchise. The team was named after the Oorang dog kennels. It was a novelty team put together by the kennels' owner, Walter Lingo, for marketing purposes. It was literally an all-Native American team, with Jim Thorpe as its leading player. They played the 1922 and 1923 NFL seasons. Of the 20 games they played over two seasons, only one was played at "home", this being in nearby Marion."
They were 4 and 16 over 2 years. Carlisle is the Pa. town where Jim Thorpe went to college I think.
I couldn't find any record of my long gone uncle whose first name I don't know. He may have played for the Stapletons when they were a semi-pro team. He wasn't on the 1929 NFL team roster. I got tired of looking for him.

Carlisle Barracks was the old Indian School. The track (where he trained for the Olympics) and a few other remnants were still there when I lived there in the late 50's, but it's been the Army War College for over 50 years now.

Which reminds me of an ice cream shop down the street where cones were a dime and banana splits were 25 cents. Cokes were a nickel in small glass bottles in a vending machine on the golf course, where I got my only hole in one...that one endless summer I actually played golf and I wasn't quite a geek, yet. Or discovered girls ....

And that reminds me of a glass of beer for 15¢ at the Grotto in Bethlehem, Pa. Good pizza too. And girls too.

Long gone uncle's name, depending on how he may have spelled it: Wessloch, Wessoloch, Wesslock, Wessolock. My mother's family couldn't agree on anything.
