hmmm......

on the 'high land' near the wabash a bicycle wheel company began to buiid autos...

as many did in 1900s.

so the overland wheel company begat...

the 'overland runabout'

which became the willys runabout and the whippet...

willys designed and produced the 'jeep' a quarter ton utility truck.

following the war kaiser took the wheel and continued a special division just for government vehicles.

during the cold war some of the military technology migrated to the private sector,

postal, utility and police vehicles were kaiser jeep products....

kaiser added the studebaker assests and turned the south bend plant to this effort.

amercian motors purchased kaiser in the hippy daze and renamed the government division AM GENERAL CORP.

post vietnam am general developed the hmmwv, phonetically...the humvee.

renault purchased amc but....

a foriegn government couldn't own a u.s. defense contractor,

so the am general division was spun off and...

ling-temco-vought (LTV) purchased am general...

the h/q moved around from indiana to michigan to indiana and so on...

am general remains an independent company with primarily defense contract revenue...

the mac andrews and forbes holdings company recently acquired controlling interest in am general from the remco group...

so now ron perelman has controlling interest in am general...

am general is NOT owned by ge'em.

the 'hummer' name is ge'em property.

am general CONTINUES to built humvees but d/c production of the civilian model sold by ge'em under the hummer 1 name.

the h2 is basically a yukon re skinned.

the h3 has far more 'humvee' dna than the 2...

but both 2 and 3 are ge'em platform designs...

one can still aquire a civilian model of the am humvee...

but it ain't easy and they don't come from ge'em...

cheers
2air'

In review...

While perusing the posts prior
the topics lost in a mire
of spam and corn and wine
tomatoes, peppers, together nine.
Then to prune
and so as not to ruin
let us continue downhill
has anyone been to Sodaville?

Oregon of course
natural springwater the source
of the villages designation
it was a prime destination
though somewhat obscure
for water thought to be pure

then came the chatter
it was contaminated with fecal matter
seems the plant up the hill
had a leak, a spill

The tale tis true
alas who knew

cleansing

i've not been to sodaville
but do drink the water

while on the road to wellsville
ks, mo, ny, pa, ut and ohio

perhaps it's time
for a cleanings retreat
on the 7th day as intended,
but away from the creek
where they did battle.

john kellogo it seems,
stole a granula of truth
corn flakes yes, yes
but granola too?
his fence never mended.

we could gather
near the spring
west of transylvania
south of the columbia
in a vineyard of grigio
or merlot or cabs....

where an echo is heard...
"give him another you know what"
"yes and another
and another until
you come to your senses"

we'd enjoy the visit
as tc boyle invisioned,
for lightbody
but not mr bender.

cw post kept the whole bowl rolling
with his own cereal novel,
what's one letter between friends
'round a campfire...
just ask caleb jackson.

to be continued...

Speaking of pollen......Something floating around in the air today is driving me nuts (er, more nuts than usual). Man, I'm glad winter is finally over.

Hmmmm, intelligent life....

Think about the time scale of our own ice age cycles. The last big one was 100,000 years ago. Hominids had split around 5,000,000 years ago, leading eventually to Sapiens, but Sapiens never got past the wall painting stage until the weather settled down about 10,000 years ago--suddenly farms, towns, cities, politicians, I-Pods! In another 100 years, or so I've heard, hot hot hot, but not too hot except for the affect on the rain patterns so drought drought drought, civilization goes down the tubes.

Sooooo, Sapiens gets his chance starting 5,000,000 years ago, finally gets civilized about 6,500 years ago and in another 100 from now, blows it. So civilization lasts 0.13% of the potential extistence of Sapiens. And Sapiens has been around 0.125% of the 4 billion year existence of earth. So we manage to get a spaceship to this "interesting" planet that can support life and I-Pods and women in short skirts, but do we get there in the 0.01625% of the time between getting their knuckles off the ground and pumping their last ton of CO2 in the air? I'll take bets on the "no" side.

Two more generations here and it's cockroach time! I wonder if the last gul (that's two letters from guy and two from girl) will have a Koran or a Bible--maybe a Vargas Calendar! Yeah.

(you may note that I'm giving Sapiens a 5,000,000 year existance, like from Lucy, but that's a stretch--it's really only 100,000, but this makes the numbers at least possible.)

Question:

1. How many rivets do you get if you have racked up 8000 posts?

2. Is there an honorific that we should use to address a rivet master with 8000 posts?
