Does anybody know where the "beer review" thread is located? Susan found the New Belgium " Accumulation IPA" the other day and that dang stuff is good. Just wanted to add my review.

Never mind, found it. For the first time history, the search feature worked on the first try.

Time changes to Standard Time tonight. Remember the old adage, "Spring Back, Fall forward". And it doesn't count unless you change yer clocks at exactly 2:00am. Don't be late in the morning!

I think Daylight Savings Time is an idea whose use-by date has long ago expired. About the only remaining benefit is a possible slight reduction in after-dark crime. What do you think?

Lets kids go trick-or-treating before dark, too. That's why DST was expanded to early November. When I was growing up, we switched back to Standard Time in mid-October and kids went trick-or-treating in the dark. Back when the costumes were the scariest thing about Halloween.

Businesses have flexible work schedules and could easly alter their hours to suit the clock, rather than altering the clock to suit their business hours, but schools don't really have that luxury. But considering that in the US kids have three summer months off from school, they don't even need DST in those months.

Some states (Arizona and Hawaii) don't even use DST, and they get by just fine without it.

But I think the real beneficiaries of Daylight Savings Time these days are Internet service providers. Consider:
1 - We change back and forth on the same weekends every year, but not the same calendar days, and as a result some years have a whole week more of DST than others.
2 - When we change back and forth, we have one day of 23 hours and one day of 25 hours in the year.
These two facts, taken together, mean that automated equipment that has to tell time needs an Internet connection to know when to switch its clock display. That uses up a lot of bandwidth for machines that could operate in stand-alone mode if we didn't have DST. Bandwidth that has to be paid for.

Only a white man would cut a foot off of the bottom of a blanket and sew it onto the top and think he'd made a longer blanket - Native American's observation about Daylight Savings Time

That reminds me of a joke.
What did the blanket say when it fell off the bed? Oh sheet!

There's a reason Hawaii doesn't do it--it's called latitude.

Arizona, not so much. I'm sure they just think it's neat to have to have three clocks on the wall at the Petrified Forest NP. Actually, I have no idea why Arizona does anything (or does not), except for pure contrariness. Weren't they late to the Martin Luther King party, too?

It's even more complicated: The state of Arizona doesn't do DST, but the Navajo Reservation does. (The rez encompasses a hefty chunk of Arizona.)
