A Y can't be for Yah-Ta-Hey again, so it needs to stand for Yankee, NM. Now in private hands and with no visible remains, it used to be a mining town (coal) to the east of the Raton area. Here's the text from Ghosttowns.com, linked below:

Quote:
For a number of years prior to the establishment of the town known as Yankee, farmers from nearby Johnson Mesa dug coal on the slopes of the mesa for their own personal use. In 1904, the Chicorica Coal Company, backed by a Wall Street brokerage firm and the Santa Fe Railroad, promoted by an A. D. Ensign, went forward with the development of the bituminous coal beds in Johnson and Barela mesas. The town of Yankee was formed and began to grow. As the Yankee mines continued to develop, frame houses were built and the population grew to several thousand residents by 1907. The town had all the usual businesses and a school for the miner's children. Ensign built a beautiful two story home that was a show place of solid mahogany, velvet furniture, oriental rugs, and marble statues. The Ensign estate changed hands several times and by 1923 its treasures had been sold and the mansion fell into a state of disrepair. All traces of Yankee have vanished and the site is now occupied by a cattle ranch. Courtesy Henry Chenoweth

A is for ... well, not Agua Fria, the ghost town down the street from us, and not the Agua Fria in Valencia County (also a ghost town, this one south of Abq), but the Agua Fria in Santa Fe County, which has been with us for around 300 years. And still not a ghost town!

El Prado, New Mexico - is an unincorporated suburb of Taos, in Taos County - "gateway to Taos Mountain - some of the best skiing in the US!"

I'm running out of place names in NM, but still got a few left! An O is for Ohkay Owingeh. The new (but very old) name for San Juan Pueblo, Ohkay Owingeh is located just north of the town of Espanola and has been around for, oh, around 800 years.

This paper is more about the dialect spoken at nearby Nanbe, but some discussion of Ohkay Owingeh is in it, too:

I'll do an N for Nambe, NM. I think I might have already done Nambe, but will repeat it here because I found out something new about it today: Nambe is an English pronunication, but a closer approximation to the original Tewa name is Nanbe. (The phonological explanation for the change is known as anticipatory assimiliation, a pretty common occurrence.)
