Wow, Seven Springs is one remote location!

You know, I don't remember for sure, but seems like a game of destinations ought to be, well, destinations, not necessarily towns per se. So how about this destination in New Mexico with an S: Sandia Crest! No town there, but there is a parking lot up there and the crest restaurant. And, on a clear day, a view to forever!

OK, here's a "T" DESTINATION EVENT at Tupper Lake, NY's Woodsmen's Days July 12 -14, 2013. Come visit the Adirondacks at the height of their summer beauty. Tupper Lake is close to the Olympic town of Lake Placid, and the extrodinary Adirondack Museum in Blue Mtn. Lake.
http://woodsmendays.com/

There are PLENTY of campsites in the Adirondacks!

OK, that's an "E" destination... How about "Enchanted Circle Pottery"?

I'm sure you will enjoy the trip to this studio and gallery destination. This is a cool place where their pottery work is fired solely with wood. Wood firing, an ancient Japanese process of firing, produces one of a kind iridescent colors. As the wood burns in the kiln, wood ash lands on the ceramic pieces. The kiln reaches such intensely high temperatures (2400 degrees), that the ash is melted into a glaze. The flames surging across the pots also add interesting marks and color. Near Lynn's place, the Gallery is open daily 9 am - 6 pm. Located 8 miles west of Angel Fire on U.S. Hwy 64.

Oh, I like that we've understood that this is about destinations, which may be towns, but not necessarily so!

But I leave it to somebody else to come up with a "Y" destination, especially since I can't seem to think of one at the moment.

An "A" Destination...

Well that's an easy one! "A" is for Albuquerque's International Balloon Fiesta!

Like last year, we'll be joining the Four Corners Unit Balloon Fiesta Rally right there on the field for several days of exciting ballooning and other cool Airstream-related activities.

Some of the best breakfast burritos can be enjoyed every morning!

Some pix from the 2012 Balloon Rally attached...

For E, I have to say a word about Essex County, NY and FORT TICONDEROGA on Lake Champlain at Ticonderoga, NY. This is the fort you read about in your high school history books where the future of the US was decided. The old stone fortress is beautifully restored, has excellent road access, good RV parking, and is an easy diversion off I-87 on your way to the other wonders of the Adirondacks, a stay in lively Lake George, or a continuing on to very metropolitan Montreal, Quebec. Click the link above! You'll LOVE the Adirondacks in Summer!

Our game has kind of gone dormant, so let's restart. The last post's destination ended in A, so how about Abiquiu, New Mexico, a very cool place!

Umatilla! I had to look that one up on the map!

But that means another A destination. We could do Aztec, New Mexico! Aztec is home to (among other things) Aztec Ruins National Monument, a Chaco outlier. Worth a visit!

Coshocton, Ohio

This was one of my favorite stops on the 1999 WBCCI/Vintage Airstream Club Wagon Wheels Caravan. Coshocton is home to Roscoe Village a restored Canal Village along the Ohio and Erie Canal System.

Ok, ok, an N. How about Nenahnezad, New Mexico. A mouthful, and it should probably be written Niinahnízaad since it's a Navajo community near Fruitland between Farmington and Shiprock.

I'll bet a buck that this town shows up in one of the Ella Clah novels, maybe even in one of Hillerman's!

Looks like we got two N destinations at once! Ok, let's do one more N, and then it's onward!

How about Navajo, New Mexico. Ah, guess what tribe lives there? Actually, there's a bit of a claim to fame: It is the most Navajo of any town in the US with 95% of residents of Navajo ancestry.

Navajo is located pretty much where you'd expect: Near the NM-AZ border north of the Window Rock area.

Whoa, another "N" - I like, Nagezzi, New Mexico. Its the "gateway" to Chaco Canyon National Historic Park from the US550. Getting to Chaco over the improved dirt road (about 13miles) is worth the effort.

Today the massive buildings of the ancestral Pueblo peoples still testify to the organizational and engineering abilities not seen anywhere else in the American Southwest. For a deeper contact with the canyon that was central to thousands of people between 850 and 1250 A.D., go to and explore Chaco through guided tours, hiking & biking trails, evening campfire talks, and night sky programs.

Egads, now we're all mixed here! Ok, let the new destination be either an I (Nageezi) or an O (Navajo), but not both!

Illiopolis, Illinois

Most tourists will probably note the ruins of the Sangamon Ordnance Plant, closed following World War II, that lie west of Illiopolis. The town lies in the greater Springfield metropolitan area along old US 36.

Ah, an S could be for Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Santa Rosa is located on I40 and was a stop-over for old Route 66, famous enough that John Ford chose to shoot a scene there for his 1940 film of Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. Prior to 1937, Route 66 turned northwest near Santa Rosa and headed for Santa Fe. (From there, the pre-1937 route went south through Albuquerque to Los Lunas, and then west and northwest.)
