Yampa is in one out-of-the-way location in Colorado!
And "A" could be Agua Fria, New Mexico. There are actually three Agua Frias in this state, one in Valencia County, one in Santa Fe County, and one in Colfax County. Of course, I mean the one in Colfax because it's about a mile from where I am sitting. And in spite of what the new New Mexico state map suggests, Agua Fria is a ghost town with no visible remains -- other than two gravel roads now in the area, one called Agua and the other, Fria. (To its credit, Agua Fria was, at one time, large enough to have a post office.)

Eubank, I sure hope we can make it your place one of these years ... you are a wealth of information. I love that you know all these snippets about your community and they sound as if you genuinely know about them ... Wendy

N, N, N. It seems I've already done Nageezi and Nambe, so where to now? I guess we could do Navajo Dam, located just to the east of the Aztec area. There's a pretty nice state park campground up there at the lake (and, I hear, another state park on the Colorado side, too). And there is absolutely world-class trout fishing in the San Juan just below the dam!
I'd recommend approaching the area from the west side on Rd. 173. Narrow, of course, but all paved. There is a road from the south (539) that we tried. Not paved in lots of sections, a lot of sand and dirt and some washouts. Not a good idea!

Ah, another A! How about Abiquiu, located, I'd guess, 50 or 60 miles to our east/southeast.
Abiquiu is home to Georgia O'Keefe's Ghost Ranch, where she did some paintings of the natural surroundings, including some of the red cliffs about and of the Pedernal. (The Pedernal -- or the Cerro Pedernal -- is a high and narrow mesa visible even from parts of Taos.)
There's also Abiquiu Lake, a reservior on the Rio Chama river, located on the west side of Highway 84 from Ghost Ranch. There's a very nice COE campground at the lake where we've been wanting to camp (but never getting around to it).
Just north of the area is the pretty neat Echo Amphitheater, very near the highway and worth a vist!
Oh, and, of course, the old village of Abiquiu itself!

Oh, U? How about Ute Park, down the highway below Cimarron Canyon State Park. Not a whole lot there other than some history, though it does still have a post office (for the time being). Things did get exciting around Ute Park (and up here) last summer when Johnny Depp and the big film crew were in town for about a month to film parts of the new movie, The Lone Ranger. (Several of the crew stayed with us here at the park. Interesting people!)

E is for ... Etown, also historically known as Elizabethtown.
Etown is a ghost town located about five or six miles north of Eagle Nest, which, in turn, is about ten miles from here. Unlike most other ghost towns around here, Etown has lots of physical remains because some of it was built not just of wood, but of rock, which does a lot better job of withstanding the wrath of our harsh winters up here in the mountains.
The central historical facts can be found at the URL below:
Elizabethtown, New Mexico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What is not in that record is available (or was available) on the back of the menus at the old steakhouse in Eagle Nest: Years ago, a fellow in Etown bought himself a big load of logs for construction, but he had to leave for the winter, leaving the logs behind. When he got back, his logs had, well, disappeared from Etown. It seems that those logs found their way all by themselves to Eagle Nest, where they assembled themselves into a building, a nice, new bordello.
The bordello is gone, but the building is still there, now the empty steakhouse. We all hope that some enterprising soul will reopen a business there. As a restaurant, of course! Decent restaurants are hard to come by in this valley!

An S! Finally! It's for San Antonio, New Mexico! The gateway to my favorite preserve, Bosque del Apache, San Antonio is also home to the Buckhorn Tavern, where Bobby Flay got whipped in a throw-down for green-chili cheeseburgers. (Note to all Owl lovers: It was the Buckhorn, not the Owl, that slew Bobby's burgers.)
Boy, I wish I could head down there in a few weeks to watch the cranes!
