Cultural Differences: Canada/U.S.

Researchers, after many years of surveys, have finally discovered the difference!

Did you know that during winter driving incidents - when suddenly faced with heading for the ditch on a slippery road:

98% of Americans will say "Oh, S**t!!!".

98% of Canadians will say "Hold my beer and watch this!!!"

(Sorry - one of my kids just sent this to me and I thought this the perfect place to pass it on ....)

Personally, I don't see how Canadians navigate at night on their country roads without being able to rely on discarded trash and beer cans that we use to mark the sides of our roads.

Didn't mean to reference an old joke; actually I was referring to the notable lack of trash/litter we saw during our six weeks of traveling the Maritimes this past September. We remarked over and over again how clean the roadsides were. And as we made the circuit of the Gaspe' Peninsula every place was tidy - yards, farms and ditches. No junk in yards, no vehicle derelicts up on blocks.

Since I have some Canadian blood, I guess I would say "Oh S....t, I spilled my beer."

Canadians honor the Queen.

The US lets them marry each other.

In a typical newscast on Canadian TV, you will hear about items in the US, Canada, and the world.

In a typical newscast on US TV, you will likely only hear about US news, and 98% of that is about politics, and 2% will be about something like a kid that got stuck in a drainpipe.

…when they're not flying around in balloons.

I do wish we'd get more news of Canada. Is Trudeau still prime minister? Have the quints grown up?
