A couple of the biggest differences bewteen "then & now" and "us & them" is in the 20's passengers were allowed to travel IN the caravan while their drivers took them away on their luxurious holidays. I seriously doubt they "went camping" in these, more likely they were used for a day trip to the country or...more of a luxury mode of transportaion - an accessory for their cars, 'cause heaven forbid they would have to travel in the same vehicle as their "help".

Pretty cool though! Would love to have an old caravan like one of those ~ and the lifestyle that went with it!

One telling comment in the article is, "The gramophone and radio would probably have been powered from the tow vehicle."

The gramophone has a clockwork motor (one can see the handle for winding it up in the photos) and radios of that period were always battery powered. One battery for powering the tubes' filaments and another for driving the circuitry. The notion of driving a radio from a car's electrical system didn't come till a bit later.

Of course, if you want to astound a young person today, show them a purely mechanical (wind up) record player. Explain that this is the equivalent of an MP3 player from 90 years ago, and you will be met with derision.
