Coors!

When I lived in Colorado, I used to race my sailboat against Pete Coors; he's the silver-haired guy that sometimes apprars in Coors commercials and a really nice guy. At the time, old Joe Coors was still alive and running things his way; Pete lived in a very modest house and sailed a Catalina 22 like me.

One time at a regatta, they rolled out a keg of Coors that had been stored hot for a long time; it was dark colored and really rancid. Pete took one look, said "dump it", and got on the phone. An hour later, a big beer truck rolled up with some fresh beer. No charge.

I trust Blanco can handle the influx of 4 classic Motorhomes and 3 Trailers. (so far)
Reminds me of our arrival at Lost Maples:
What kind of RV do you have? An Airstream...
And ??? Just an Airstream....
So they all came out to look at it. They have never seen an Airstream that drives.

Sounds good here. We had a great potluck at the last forum rally at Pedernales Falls. We were few in number but full in belly when it was over.

You can count us in. Nothing like the smell of campfires and BBQ pits...

Canyon of the Eagles

Have any of you tried the Canyon of the Eagles park in Burnet? Blanco is a bit of a haul for us in the Fort Worth area to make that weekend. Sometime in December we will try the Canyon of the Eagles park. There is a nice write up on this site and their website looks good. If anyone has first hand experience I'd sure appreciate your review. Thanks.

Re: Canyon of the Eagles

Yes, been there many times. It is a nice park, with lots of hike and bike trails, just a little expensive. The sites are ok, but not very level (they did improve them a lot). All sites have 50 amps and sewer.
Other attractions are the observatory and the vanishing river boat cruises.
There are some very nice and secluded tent camping areas, for those that don't mind dry camping.
Very nice scenic ride, once you turn off from HWY 29 to FM2341
All in all, one of the nicer parks in the area.

COE is nice; it is a pretty place with a lot of big trees in the campground and nice hiking trails. The layout iof power, water, an sewer isn't the best, probably because they tried to work around the trees.

The restaurant is semi-pricey, but good. There is sometimes some live music. Otherwise, you commune with nature because there is nothing else around for quite a ways.

It wouldn't take a whole lot longer to get to Blanco, less than an hour, since the route to COE is rather circuitous.

thanks

Thanks all for the review. We're going to try it some weekend in December. My kids are excited about the observatory and the trees/seclusion sounds nice. Sounds like a good mix between amenities and nature. Some of these places have great hookups and features but seem to be one step away from a mall parking lot. I appreciate the heads up when TX folks are going to different spots. I'm in the North TX chapter but we enjoy the spots closer to Austin. Also really enjoy Tyler state park with all the pine trees about 2 hours east of Dallas.

Mike and Lora with their 25' 2002 will also be in attendance.

Plan to leave the West Houston area en route to Blanco early Friday morning.

We had our installation rally there last year (Highland Lakes Unit). It is a super RV park, probably the best I have been at, and will be even better in a few years when the trees between sites mature a bit. Our unit had a movie one night while we were there. Even a grand piano in the hall and a state of the art sound system.

They served great meals; I especially enjoyed the breakfasts.
