Maggie, coincidentally I just received this in an email from Oregon State Parks. You might want to be a night owl the day you reserve, as well as everyone in your group. The best sites go fast.

You will be able to reserve an Oregon State Park campsite online every day at midnight, beginning January 2, 2016. (Our previous online hours matched regular Monday-Friday business.) This means you can reserve online—nine months in advance, 24/7.
Again, this change begins at midnight, January 2, 2016.

9 months in advance for this will be March 8 or 9, depending on when one will arrive.
L Loop, near the yurts and cabins, will keep us all within close proximity, and there are plenty of sites in that loop with shower and restroom facilities in the center.
I am going to put an alert on my calendar.

9 months in advance of our gathering is actually January 8 or 9....not March.  Thank you, climber, for kindly advising me of this.
I never was very good at math.
I have had a lot in my head lately.... 
Okay, so any that think they might want to attend this little "do", get on the reservation site in about 2 weeks. L Loop
I will now move this from March on my calendar to January.

You can reserve now, I promise! I just checked reserveamerica.com. They are accepting reservation through September 24th 2016. You can call or make reservations online. Happy camping. Fort Stevens is a big and popular campground.

At least I, and perhaps others, will be traveling from Wyoming to the west coast beginning around the 25th of August, so if you or anyone else wanted to do a caravan west, we could travel together.
Thinking 3 days, perhaps 4, as it is about 1000 miles from WY to Astoria.

Not to worry. The fire is threatening the town of Solimar Beach, CA, which is 1062 miles south of Astoria & Ft. Stevens State Park. Portland has had the wettest December on record.

Coming out of the WY Rockdocking on August 25 th, near Pinedale, I have made a reservation at the KOA near Jackson for the weekend.
I will want to do laundry, dump tanks, etc., after 10 days in the wilderness.
This place also has cabins.
It is ridiculously expensive, but amenities are going to be important to me for a few days.
Anyone wanting to caravan out to the west coast, this would be a good meeting place.
We can hang out, visit, and those that want to explore a bit can do that.
