WEST: Shirley Valentine Gathering Sept. 9-11, 2016

Some of us have talked of a women's gathering on the West Coast, in the spirit of the Shirley Valentine movie....which I have not yet seen, but perhaps someone will bring it and we can watch it en masse.

We have decided on the weekend of September 9-11, at Fort Stevens SP near Astoria, OR, and all who may be interested are invited to join us.

Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department: Fort Stevens State Park

So far, it is myself and Gail/D1R1, plus a friend of hers, possibly also Evelyn/ColoradoLady....and I have invited FaN, as well.

So, wanted to put this out there for any who may be interested. I always enjoy meeting AirForums friends.

According to the website, Fort Stevens SP does not take reservations until May, but I am going to call them in a couple of months and see what they have to say.

Any who are familiar with the park perhaps chime in with good loops to focus on.

Looking forward to it.

This would not be rigidly limited to women, either, so any who had spouses in tow are still welcome......men just may find a lot of women's chatter a bit much.

Maggie, I'll bet if we talk football and baseball....menfolk would be happy! LOL!

A bucket list trip still left for me is the west coast....Washington, Oregon, Columbia Gorge, north Cali.....Hwy 101. I will try for it. I don't believe I have seen that movie and it does seem interesting. I checked last night, and trip to Pinedale, Wy is 485 miles from here. How far is that from Fort Bridger? Evelyn.

Fort Bridger is in the far SW corner of Wyoming, looks to be no more than 200 miles or so?

Posted by Gail/D1R1 on my Different Life thread:

One side of the camping areas at Fort Stevens SP has cabins and yurts available... I believe some of the attendees will be using those... so we might try to stay in that area with the reservations... it's a pretty big place... just a thought... ok, everyone..

This would be a good area to settle into, and if any will not have RV's, on site accommodations are available!

Love the movie! And love the idea! I'll do my best to get there, it's close to me. Will you be continuing to post about this? Or do you want to start a site or FB page to put out info and keep track of details?

Welcome, Ladyfern!

No website, no Facebook page.....we will do everything right here, on this thread.

Gail lives close to Astoria, so is going to wander up there soon and check out the campground, then report back.

We will each need to make reservations, once we can, so follow this thread for any additional information, and add anything you think might be relevant.

See you there!

This sounds like a lot of fun. I am a single woman learning to travel with my 16' Bambi. Towing with Toyota Tacoma., I've made several trips by myself with no problem but I need the courage to take a trip this far. Seriously considering it.

And your name is Maggie, as well?

Wow....there are not too many of us out there!

You could do a drive to the west coast.....lots to see and do along the way, can stick to major highways if you need to, then it's all about miles.

If I can do it, anyone can do it. It is more determination than anything.

We would love to have you!

Maggie

Fort Stevens State Park

You can make reservtions online to camp at Fort Stevens. I believe 9 months in advance, which would include your planned weekend of September 9-11.

Great to keep it contained here. I'm not a FB fan! As long as updates get posted, I will see them. I am in Federal Way, WA...just two hours (maybe) from Astoria. Let me know what I can do to assist. I think this could be an unsual and unique event!

Thanks, Becky.

When I looked on their website, it said they open for reservations in May, so we will have to look into that some more.

A Forums member sent me a link to the campground map..thank you..and it looks like L Loop would be best for us, as it is close to the yurts and cabins...which at least some folks are going to be in.

Gail is going to take a drive up, too.....once the rains let up.

And I have a Shirley Valentine video... maybe someone has the dvd if we need it... I can bring a video player... this is going to be FUN!!! more info after I get up there... Hugs and Love, keep having fun!!!

Shirley Valentine! One of my favourite movies! The rally is a little far for me, but I'll keep it on my radar. September is my best month for travelling because we have a break at work. Great idea, Maggie!

Hope you can come, Lisa.

I don't believe this was my idea, I must say in all honesty...it may have been Fan's, or Gail's. I don't think it was mine.

I do think it will be fun.

Ft Stevens is big park, but can still get full that time of year. As one who does a lot of camping on the Oregon Coast I'd recommend getting online the minute the reservation window opens, especially if you're looking for multiple sites close together.

By the way, for popular sites, a minute can sometimes literally make all the difference😄

Have fun Maggie & Friends!

Cheers,

Climber & Ms Climber

Keep me posted, I am very interested. I just bought my Airstream this year and I have traveled as much as I could this summer. This sounds so FUN.
