My flight to Portland leaves DFW at 9 tomorrow morning. I'm almost on my way!

I plan to spend the first couple of nights and the day in between at McMinnville. There's a museum there I've always wanted to see, and besides, my reservation at Ft. Stevens starts on Friday.

I look forward to seeing all of you.

Be sure to hit up Comunity Plate on third st in McMinville for lunch. All Their food is insanely good but their burger is the best I've had. Three blocks to the South of Community plate is Terra Vina Wines tadteing room. Big reds, Italian style. Scrumptious. For dinner, there is a fabulous Spanish Tapas restaurant sort of across the street from Tera Vina. Spendy but worth it.

Evelyn's site was empty when I got here, and she finally pulled in 3 hours later....had been shopping at Costco and Fred Meyer.

She is tanned from walking the beach with her granddaughter over the weekend, and having a blast.

Good morning. Leaving this a.m. Arriving today. Long travel from Jacksinville Fl. Over 4000 miles so far. Excited to see Oregon and looking forward to meeting everyone.

You are, indeed, a long way from home....but you will hopefully love the Oregon coast, and find all the miles driven worthwhile.

Might do what Evelyn did, and route yourself here off of 84, as traffic on that thoroughfare is a nightmare.

See you soon!

Please allow me to inject a longish post here.
All of you who are heading to this gathering are doubly blessed! Having spent most of my 67 years camping at Ft Stevens, I'd like to tell you that you are in for a treat. It is as good as the Oregon Park Service has to offer. You have forest camping, the beach, wonderful hiking and biking trails, fishing, and even your very own shipwreck. For the out-of-state visitors, please enjoy yourselves!!
The second thing you will enjoy is Shirley Valentine. It is an obscure British film, made in the late 80s, and was only shown on "selected screens" for a very short time. I thought I was the only one who even remembered it. It has always been on my list of my favorite top 5 movies. For those of you who have never seen it, it is an smartly written, brilliantly acted film that you will not soon forget. It is about a person at a crossroad of life that uses travel for self realization and reinvention. You can't get more AS than that!
So to all that attend, I wish you a wonderful weekend. I wish I were there.
Rick

It was a nice post, Rick.

Already a nice group here, and we've just begun.

Visitors, a beach walk, a bit of wine, a campfire, and lots of talking going on.

Thanks for the recommendation, Mike. I'm driving a rented Class C, and I may not be mobile enough to get there for lunch. The less I maneuver this unfamiliar rig, the better. Sorry to miss the awesome burgers.

I miss my Airstream!
