VSD Magazine featured Airstreams

Did anyone else who attended the 2003 International Rally in Vermont run into Jean-Claude, the photographer from VSD magazine? If so, you might want to check out the July 30th edition of the magazine -- there is a 6-page color spread on the rally including many photographs of Airstreams! I was photographed, along with my Bambi, while eating breakfast with another family and one of the photos ended up in the magazine. There are also photos of many vintage Airstreams including the 1935 Torpedo model. Unfortunately, I can't read French so I don't know what the article says. Maybe someone out there can translate the cover page for me:

"Les vacances des autres"
"En caravane, a la redecouverte de l' Amerique"
"Chaque annee, les proprietaires d'Airstream se retrouvent pendant dix jours. Notre reporter a participe a leur dernier rassemblement dans le Vermont."

Just wondering... did you authorize permission for your picture to be published?

Any language doesn't translate literally. Recombine so that it makes the most sense to you (I've already done some of that).

In order:
Vacations of others.
By trailer, a rediscovery of America.
Each year Airstream owners meet for ten days. Our reporter participated in their last rally in Vermont.

Courtesy of a youth spent as a military dependent. And you can guess how long ago Charles de Gaulle asked the US forces to leave France. (okay, early 60's) Au revoir!

I didn't sign any formal release forms but the photographer did ask permission to take photos for the magazine so we knew our participation in the photo shoot was for a magazine spread. I guess permission was informally granted as we knew what the photos were for and we did willingly participate in posing for pictures for an hour!

The photographer took thousands of photographs during the rally and only ten were chosen for the magazine article. I never for a moment thought a photo from our shoot would end up in the magazine!

Could someone translate the caption that is under our photo?

"Le rendez-vous de 16 H 30. Les voisins de parking se retrouvent autour do sodas, de bieres et de chips afin de partager leur passion pour les Airstream."

"Le rendez-vous de 16 H 30. Les voisins de parking se retrouvent autour do sodas, de bieres et de chips afin de partager leur passion pour les Airstream."

Rough (not literal) translation:

"The 4:30 happy hour. The trailer park neighbors share soda, beer and chips, as part of their passion for Airstreaming."

That is quite humorous that it says "happy hour" as we are eating breakfast! The photo clearly shows coffee, Kashi Crunch cereal, box of raisins, etc. Too funny! I guess the magazine liked the "happy hour" story better!

I will scan some of the photos and post them when I get a chance.

I got my French major a few years back....

I guess the photographer really wanted his audience to think you were enjoying a happy hour without literally mentioning it since he confused captai crunch for lays and coffee for buds!

I am not familiar with the VSD magazine. Is it available online?

It would nice to see the pictures from the rally since I couldn't make it to Vermont.

"VSD Magazine" is a French magazine that can be found in an international magazine stand. The magazine is published weekly and is similiar to the US "People Magazine."

If you want to see some other photo's of the rally, I posted my photographs on the New England Unit website.

Looks like a good time was had by all! Noticed a 16CCD in your pictures, what did everyone think of it? It didn't have solar panels or rock guards, was it owned by a member or brought in for display?

(barge)

I believe that one was "on display". I was looking it over in amazment...it is just SO tiny.

One person commented to me that the tires on this model last twice as long as any other. I thought that was interesting...so I asked him why that was. He responded, "because they spend half their time in the air".

One feature I like about the new 16' CCD is that there is a bed instead of a sofa that doubles as a bed. Additionally, it has the Classic wrap-around windows in the front. I like those windows so much, I contacted Airstream about getting my Bambi retro-fitted with them. Unfortunately, due to the structural construction of my Airstream, it would be cost prohibitive to have the work done now.

VSD article cover page

I have scanned the photos of the article. Here is what the cover page looked like. Thanks to CanoeStream for translating the French:

"Vacations of others.
By trailer, a rediscovery of America.
Each year Airstream owners meet for ten days. Our reporter participated in their last rally in Vermont."

VSD article page 2

This is my personal favorite! It was taken in the Vintage section of the International Rally. Can anyone translate the French caption?
