Urban Air - Downtown camping in Eaton Rapids

We just signed up to be at Urban Air Oct 2-5, 2014. Camping in downtown Eaton Rapids MI - just Airstreams, lining the downtown main drag. Music, food, socializing. A neat way to bring some excitement into a small town setting, and a different kind of camping experience. Looks like they've done this a couple of times, and sounds like they'd like to expand the idea.

More info at WakeUpDowntown.com

You come in on Thursday and get parked on the street (electric hookups provided), and break down Sunday morning. Plenty of restaurants, so you don't even have to cook!

Very possible I'll be there. My brother lives there and I was planning on seeing him after coming back from a trip from Tennessee. I've been at the town before its a very nice small community for sure.

This is such a wonderful idea...if it weren't so far to go, we'd be there in a flash. Looks like fun. The whole concept is a winner.

Now to find a place to do it.

Looking forward to this - we may go to MI early and visit some friends beforehand.
How many other AirForum members will be there? Who should we look for? Getting close!

Robert --

Your message reads that you may be one of the, or THE, planner for the event. I am wonder if you would be willing, once the event is over, in starting a new thread sharing what it took to stand up a rally like this - how dififuclt/easy it was to locate towns willing to do this and work out leagalistics, logistics, etc.

It's am amazing concept and potentially replicatable in our favorite areas across the nation. Paula and I have already traded some ideas on towns in Southern/Central Virginia we think the concept could work.

Thanks!

Ian

Actually, I'm not involved at all with the event, other than attending (for the first time) this year. I'm just as intrigued as you are. When I emailed the organizers for more info, I offered to start a thread about the event on the AirForums, just to increase awareness. The organizer (it seems that they are all volunteers) that I have contacted is Kirk MacKellar <mackellar501@gmail.com>
I agree - this should be replicated across the country. When I go to Urban Air, I hope to get some info regarding setting up other events as well.

I asked about the advance info yesterday, and was told that they are finalizing the email to go out with details, so we should see that soon.

If you are headed to UrbanAir and have a little extra time either before or after the event, consider heading over to Grand Rapids (about 90 minutes away) and experience ArtPrize!

Echo that on ArtPrize... It even had a write up in the Wall Street Journal last year. Pretty impressive show. There is a campground "resort" just south of Grand Rapids (about 20 mins) called Hidden Ridge that is very nice.

Got the email with details, but wondering how we do a crock pot luck dinner with limited electric service.

Also does anyone know if we can get to the Howe Field staging area on Wednesday night?

No one blew a breaker last year so I don't it will be a problem. If so, bring it to the event tent and we'll plug it in there.

Someone needs to video this with one of those hotly contested "drones". Photos I saw from last year were a wonderful sight to see!
