United States Grand Prix - Austin- 2015- Anyone Take Their Airstream this Year?

We're considering driving back to Austin for the 2015 United States Grand Prix.
Was anyone here there with their Airstream last weekend. The trackside RV spots looked great on TV as did the dry camping area in Lot N.

What was your experience like. Would you go again?

Have you checked on the prices for those track side sites? It is more than many folks yearly budget for camping.

The COTA website says $400 for dry camping. Prices for trackside not given. What have you heard they cost?

I saw the race and saw what looked like 3 AS along the back stretch.
I'm a big fan of Lewis Hamilton and am happy he won! Another exciting and on track competitive pass on Nico!

I was looking for Airstreams along there, but they are so fast on that long straight,I never got a clear view,It seemed like there was an Airstream near the end.
I would love to camp in an airstream at the Austin F1 Race !
Too bad "Ham-Bone" won,I was voting for Nico
altho I would much rather a Ferrari be winning !

It looked like COTA's intent in 2012 was to sell 78 annual trackside RV spots for $15,000 (included 8 prime seating tickets). If you went to the F1 USGP, US MotoGP, TODOR LeMans Sports Car, Summer X-Games and whatever else they had there and took 7 of your friends it might pencil out. Say $3K per event for 8 people, camping and prime seating @$375 each.....yeah that could work if you went to every event and 4-6 people stayed in hotels.

Austin F1

The RV spaces with water and electric was sold on a season ticket basis and was expensive. You have water and electricity, a truck comes around to pump your tanks.

Spectator dry camping is in an open field East of the track.

I dry camped at the track this year when I volunteered for the WEC races. The camp lot gets muddy when it rains, so be careful where and how you park. I parked facing downhill, put a board under my tongue jack, and made sure my truck drive wheels were on the gravel road so I could get out. I had no problem. The year before I got stuck in my parking spot (no Trailer) after a heavy rain.

If it is summer you may need AC and not everyone brings a quiet generator. There are also generators for parking lot lighting that run all night.

The only advantage of camping at the track is avoiding the drive in and out amongst the traffic, although when I worked at the F1 in 2013 this was not a problem at 6:00 AM and 6:30 PM. Traffic moves out pretty quickly.

There is some private camping nearby and McKinny falls state park is within 7 miles. Other county and private RV parks are further away. Retail camping close to the track will be expensive that weekend if you can find it.

If you attend one of the other races in 2015 such as the Pirelli World Challenge in the spring, or the Fall Vintage race, you may be able to get a hook up site, and ticket prices are much lower.
