Rally Book-swap

I have had this idea for a while, so I thought I'd throw it out there. I have a ton of books I have collected. Sometimes I hang onto my favorites, but with very few exceptions, I never read them again.

I was thinking from now on when I go to a rally I will bring a small box of books, and set them out for other rally goers to pick through. If several people did this, then you could just pile up your boxes in the common area, everyone spend an afternoon by the fire digging through books, and give and take what you like. That way we could discover new books, and share our favorites.

Does that sound like something people might be interested in trying? Nothing formally organized, I just thought it would be a fun idea.

If you decide to give it a shot (I don't have any rallys coming up for a while) let me know how it works out.

Great idea! I hold onto anything "Airstream" that I find and then, sometimes, have to clean out the extra to make space for the new. It would be great to be able to share with others.

That's a great idea! I'm constantly shuffling books in and out of my bookcases. I'd be up for trying it at the next rally.

Did you have a plan for type of books?? Paperbacks, school books, novels, mysteries, collector's items or what? How about books on tape? I drive an hour to work every day (and another hour home in the evening) so I really enjoy GOOD books on tape. Helps the time move by much quicker. I think any of the above would be a great idea and I would certainly support such a plan.

Stephanie, a great idea, in my opinion. I remember a thread in which we all posted what we take along in our trailers for entertainment and all kinds of books were included in the listings so we do have 'streamer readers. I think such a table would draw lots of attention and grow in participation. You are inspired! ~G

There are always a ton of books available for swapping at the WBCCI International swap meet which is usually held towards the end of the rally.

See, it must be a good idea of the WB'ers have already figured it out.

I wasn't think of any particular things. Books on tape, paperbacks, whatever you have that you might want to clear out of the bookcase.

Outstanding idea Stephanie.

Count me in. Donna will be delighted to see books going out the door for a change. She may be a bit discouraged when I start picking out others though.

Right now I trade with friends and neighbors so adding this into the mix is a wonderful idea.

I do reread books, some several times if the story was exceptional and I want to capture more of the detail I may have missed in the first reading.

Now, I just have to get to a rally.

Barry
