Build-a-Rally
Let's suppose you could build your own rally. What would you include? What would you exclude?
We go to about 12-14 WBCCI rallies each year, and some are better (to us) than others. I'm sure you have your own ideas about what does (or would) make a good rally.
I'll start:
I would forget about a group breakfast at the crack of dawn. I have a breakfast routine every day. I do best if I stick to my own breakfast.
Who's next? You can list as many ideas as you want.

I would save the evenings for the food fests and campfire camaraderie, and I'd like a whole lot of unstructured day time with tons of information about the area for day tripping.

I haven't been to a rally yet, but I say Toga! Toga!!!!
OK, just kidding. A variety of things for ALL generations to do, and something silly like a contest of some sort for the weird ones like me to join.
Oh, and Sunbathing, with little airstream cut-outs on you, so you have a tanned sort of a/s non=permanantly tatooed on you!!!
Sorry, I always have to add something odd, don't hold it against me. Please.

Both great suggestions. I would be happy with a campfire, none of the rallys I've been to have had one yet. I don't really need the after dinner entertainment in the clubhouse, I think swapping stories around the campfire would be just as much (if not more) fun.
At the rallys I've been to the old folks turn in pretty close to dark (or stay in the clubhouse palying cards and doing puzzles). I'd love to share my love of astronomy with the other airstreamers, but they get up so early, I guess it makes sense they want to hit the hay when it gets dark

We started having campfires at our rallies last fall. Our Unit splits about 1/2 and 1/2 between campfire and cards.
I think a telescope and astronomy would be AWESOME!

OK, Stef, you're probably right. No togas. I have seen the pictures from last years midwest rally, and they are all sitting around the campfire. I can't wait to do that this year.
I would love to hear your stories about astronomy while under the magnificent sky with all of my newfound friends.

Got it! TCL is funky and okay to have around. Just don't take ANYTHING he says without a good dose of salt.

The escence of TCL
I am crazy and can stir up disasters with the best of them. But when I settle down, I really do like the calm life too. I am A to Z on likes and emotions. Some people like that, some people don't.
Edie G, I'm sorry to make this forum all about me. Since I haven't had the good fortune to make it to a rally, I will bow out, so everyone else will participate.

Well, we've got to fix that right away! You just need to get yourselves right down here to FL next weekend and join our rally.

TCL, We will need to have a "Trailer Cat" contest at the Rallies too.
Being new to the Rally concept, I'm not sure what is included other than what I have read in the BB. If that is the guide line, then YES to the crack of dawn group breakfast, I think that would give the late night crowd the needed recovery time. It is important to have stuff for the kids to get involved in. That is all till further research is done on my part.

Does that mean yes, have the crack of dawn breakfast? Or does it mean yes, skip the crack of dawn breakfast?

Never been to a rally
Edie -
We've never been to a rally. Can you - or anyone else - please describe what a typical rally consists of?
Thanks,
Dennis

At the just-ended region 9 rally, we had a pet contest with two ladies from the local SPCA as judges. The judging was 30% personality and some percentage behavior, and the winners, as a rule, weren't the high-priced animals. In fact, there were 2 best-of-breed dogs that didn't get ribbons. It was a lot of fun, especially since my cat won a blue ribbon. Main thing is to get some impartial judges.
Another hilarious event was the turtle races. Each WBCCI unit brought a turtle, some dinner-plate size and some dollar-size. They were released 3 at a time at the center of a 20' diameter chalk circle and the first one to cross the chalk won that heat. Sounds dull, but it was a real hoot with some real close races. Each Airstream could bring a turtle. Making a starting gate is pretty easy.
I also say "ditch the breakfasts". I'm diabetic and can't eat most of them anyway, although I do go later for the coffee.

How about a tenor banjo player instead? Although I also play mandola and tenor guitar.

Here are the rally schedules for our Unit's last 4 rallies. We don't have a Unit rally in February, instead we go to the Florida State Rally as a Unit.
