Watching our little family reunion grow from 22 rigs only a few short years ago to 219 as of today is very exciting. We never dreamed it would catch on like it has and are humbled by the response. Thank you all in advance.

The Palmetto Cove is a wonderful facility in a beautiful area of SC and we are certain you will enjoy being there. But it can only accommodate about 135 full hookups. When the numbers went past 135 we decided not to say NO, not to create a waiting list, not to turn folks away, everyone is welcome.

Instead, we made plans to create a very nice overflow area. It will not be totally dry camping, we will provide water to each rig. The area is very flat, thick with lush, mowed grass, and right there with everyone else. It is not isolated from the group. We also have an overflow area for the overflow area that when you see it, you will likely say it is the best area in the park.

There will also be an easily accessible concrete dump station with water for rinsing.

So, rest assured, everyone will be well taken care of and remember that our Airstreams are designed to be the best on the planet for boondocking.

And, if you have never boondocked, this will provide you with the perfect setting in which to give it a try. There will be plenty of helping hands and we will devote a seminar on the subject. Once you see how easy it is to boondock it will open a whole new world for travel destinations for you.

Susan and I, along with Terry and Annie, will be in the overflow area this year.

Late October in SC is historically our best weather....cool, crisp, and dry. (hope I didn't just jinx it). You will not need air conditioning, but may need a bump of the furnace or a bed warmer to knock the chill off.

We will also have several Honda generators online to top off batteries as needed.

So....come prepared to have a great time no matter where you park, it will be another fine time with 400 of your best friends.

My Class B Interstate motorhome isn't designed to be the best on the planet for boondocking, and I haven't made the extensive and expensive modifications necessary to overcome that design shortcoming. And especially after being taken to the cleaners by my money-grubbing ex-girlfriend, I can't afford to upgrade anytime in the foreseeable future. That's why I bowed out for this year. I'll just have to sign up early next time and get a hookup spot.

QUESTION:

I am still in the early stages of complete renovation on my 56 AS...however we may have a chance to pass through the area at the time of the rally...and would love to stop in and take in the overall experience.

Is there a schedule of activities ? Or any functions or seminars that we could attend?

We ordered a generator and a portable grey tank. If you can provide water then we are set for boondocking. It will be the first for us, so a little instruction might be needed when we get there.

We would love to have you stop by and join us for the rally. Your '56 would be among the oldest there.

We have many events planned including great seminars and the always popular open house.

You will definitely be in a great place for your first boondocking experience. The facility is very nice, with no dirt, mud, or rocks....only nice, thick, mowed grass.... And plenty of experienced folks to help.

Many folks are hesitant to give boondocking a try but in reality it is no different from being hooked up....you will still have all the comforts of home and it adds a whole new dimension to camping/traveling.

We kick the rally off on Thursday the 26 with our almost famous hot dog feast. But...you are more than welcome to come early and stay late.

I suspect many will arrive early so you will not be alone if you choose to come on.

This will be my first rally.

I wish there were full hook sites for everyone but as you noted we actually have 135. Some of the 148 sites will be occupied by the camp hosts.

The Palmetto Cove will handle the parking...they have a plan and it works quite well. So I leave it to them. They prefer to park everyone on a first come/first served basis which to some may not seem fair but it is probably the only way to handle it without a calamity. I stand by my promise of a great time for everyone.

I have some input and we are working on a few details for parking.

We are still working on the details, including schedule, activities, seminars, food, entertainment, and all the good stuff. We will post everything you need to know and also provide everyone with a paper copy in their rally bag. We will not leave you guessing.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the boondocking rate will be $15 per night. The full hook up sites are $25 per night. It will be paid to the Cove when you arrive. They take checks, credit cards, or cash.

We will have a small rally fee to cover the food and a few other essentials. Likely $40 per trailer or $20 for one person. The amount of fun...priceless.
