Windows and front body protection

Has anyone used a bra type set up for windows and front body protector?
I talked to a canvas shop that makes them for cars, boats, trucks and RV's and are easy to put on and take off due to the use of SS snaps. She also mentioned that the people that have them like the fact that they can take them off and store them when not towing.
They make the bra to fit the wrap around windows, with extra padding and exposed front for @ $300.00. Would this work insted of rock guards?

I would be concerned that the canvas-style bra would flap on the skin and abrade or mar either the clearcoat or paint. Aluminum is more flexible and fragile than steel like on a car. Also, I don't think they would be heavy enough to protect the front from dings...just keep it cleaner. Most rockguards/windowguards are either metal, plastic or fiberglass which are more protective than fabric would be.

Hi John -- You participated in this recent thread and there just aren't that many people who've gone your direction. The plastic rockguards can also be subjected to impact strong enough to crack the plastic -- but it's always held a couple inches away from the glass underneath. Your proposition puts a pad/canvas directly on the glass. Imagine the 60 mph impact of a 3/4" rock or bolt thrown up from the road -- easy to do and you don't even have to go to the gawd-awful Al-Can highway to find such road hazards.

The larger factor should be the absolutely irreplaceable clear glass wing windows. It will cost the greatest part of $1000 installed to replace one -- and the only wing windows available are tinted. Talk about heartache...

Cloth bra's will not protect the glass or aluminum from rocks.

It would also flap in the breeze, ruining the appearance of the sheetmetal.

If those windows are a $1,000.00 to replace and you have two of them I would opt for the highest level of protection possible.

Avion used a soft front rock protector held on with velcro,it did not flap and it did protect the alum.The 1986 and 1987 avion had these covers Also on the Gulf Coast they make hurrican covers for windows made of canvas and are approved for high winds oner 100 mph Both could be effective. My old 87 Avion 34 had the the covers and they worked verry well and the hurrican covers on the house made it through Katrina without a broken window. I would go with the factory steel personally, i just like the looks . You might want to look at diamond plate for the front also.Hope this is helpful
