Whale tail extra panels?
I have heard in the 50's on the trailers with Whale tails there was an option for extra panels on the back. What was the purpose? Does anyone have pictures of the optional panels? Thanks, Don
Whale tails weren't really an "option" or "extra panels" per se...they were the "norm" for California built trailers in 1954-56. If a trailers was built in the OH plant, it had the standard 13 panel rear during the same years. The Safari model was only built in OH so a Safari floor plan with a whale tail would be an anomaly.
You can see examples of whale tail rears in the Photo Archives..
