Vinyl Splining in window protectors

At all of the corners of the plastic window guards wrap around and center, the vinyl splining, (is that the correct term?) has pulled out and is draped across the windows. If it wasn't so regular in all of the places I would think trying to stretch them and push them back into the corners would be the easy fix, however I think perhaps cutting them and pushing them back would be the only way that they would not pull out again. Has this happened because it was stretched upon installation and next time adding extra to the corners will allow enough for curvature to remain intact? Or is it a problem of the corners not holding the gasket perhaps because they are too wide to grip the material?

What part is it and do I have to replace the entire length with new product? I am thinking I could live with pieced fix. Some of what is pulled out looks like it might be damaged or maybe it is just cruddy. I have not had a closer look yet. I am still working inside but considering the next steps as we tackle exterior repairs.

Carol,

Ours pulled out several Seasons ago. I cleaned the channel and seal with denatured alcohol.

Used this sparingly and pushed it back in with a Popsicle stick. Still stuck 2yrs later.
Not cheep but it works and comes in handy for other stuff too...still pliable also.

Sweet Streams
Bob

So you removed the entire piece then? Any problem making it fit again? I would think it would be shorter. Did you mark it to ease the stretching evenly? I don't know how long its been pulled out.

Actually no...I didn't remove the entire seal it only came loose at the rounded corners and it was still tight on the straight sections, so I just left well enough alone and cleaned everything well. Forgot to mention...used the air compressor to blow out the channel and dry it completely.
It was a fairly hot day with the sun beating directly on the protectors so the seal was fairly soft.

Sandy just reminded me that one of the protectors had the seal hanging out during our first Season, she cleaned it with Windex and stuffed it back in with a plastic spoon.
Maybe you should try her fix first....it did last 4years.

Thanks Bob, all great information and something I feel I can tackle, which is always a good thing to hear. I even have those specified "tools" you have referred to...the spoon and sticks. I was considering trying my favorite RV detail tool the Tuperware orange peeler. I don't mind the time it is taking, it's a real labor of love and I am definitely bonding. I finished the skid cloth liners today and will use some scrap to line fridge shelves. Tomorrow may be adding the bedding and spot carpet cleaning.

I am happy I don't have to purchase new spline, that will save time and money and I am glad you gave me tips before I went and cut it. I never would have thought about working on a warm sunny day so it would be pliable, great tip as were all the others. Thank you again!!

Mine pulled out at the corners also. I couldn't get them back into the corners so I cut the spline at the corners and used a small amount of rubber cement when I pushed the spline back. It's held two years now with no further problem.
