Vintage Rock Guard Mounting Question

I am in the process of replacing the original cracked/broken/UV-hazed rock guard on my '67 Globetrotter. I was surprised to see that the factory used panhead sheetmetal screws to mount the guard to the trailer. Is this still the most common and correct method of attachment. When watching the DIY network's Airstream restoration show (Classic Rides), I think they mounted their rock guard with rivets. Also, I saw an episode of RV Roadtrips (with Gary Bunzer, the RV Doctor) where they mounted an aftermarket (smoked plexi) rock gard on the front of a '67GT with rivets as well. How have those of you who have performed this upgrade mounted your guards? I only plan on doing this once as that replica rock guard was not cheap!
Thanks in advance

I still had the original rock guard on my 67 that was attached with rusty pan head screws. Took out the screws and cleaned up the rust marks and put in rivets. It has held for five years with no problems and rust free. I also found some stainless steel hold down latches (e-bay) to clean up the rest of it.

I went with stainless screws at the top piano hinge and also at the support arms. If you use the one from VTS, you will have to go with pop rivets on the hold downs because they wont clasp if you use screws. You can't use olympics on those clasps either unless you shave them with a Dremel (rivet shaver won't clear). good luck!
