Taller rock guards

It seems to me that the rock guards on my Classic are shorter than those on the Safari...What's different? Are they shorter or are the trailers different? Can I put the Safari guards on my Classic? I've already had a couple rocks stray above the rock guard. My 4X4 truck throws rocks some and some of the roads I travel are rough. Breaks my heart to put dings in my new baby!

they were all shorter initially

then airstream enlarged the size of the segment protectors on classics...

in mid/late 05 models....

safari line has them now too and the internationals but the lower edge is different on some.

so yes they can be ordered and installed.

they start basically at the trim/belt line.

a few hundred dollars cost.

Hi Mike-

I can tell you the slightly taller gaurds on the Safari don't make a difference. We have three dings in our Safari and none in the rock gaurds.

Thanks you guys....I'm gonna get the taller guards...my dings are in the skin above the short guards and would have been stopped by taller guards. At least I can let them get dinged up and replace them in future to freshen up the trailer.

Hi, I don't have any rock dings yet, but I think most of them I've read about are probably from high sitting or 4X4 tow vehicles. I think mud flaps is the answer. 2air has double flaps on his tow vehicle; I don't remenber reading if 2air got any rock dings with his set-up. I plan to have mud flaps soon.

The mud flaps are your first and foremost line of defense.

But you need good ones!

Anyone know the best price of having the tall guards installed and where? Or maybe I will just put more dings in and give it a hand hammered texture. I hate replacing them because I think it may only happen again immediately after replacement. I thought it was closer to a thousand dollars for the tall set.

dings? oh i've got em (so does the trailer)....

didn't purchase the mudflaps until i'd towed about 5 months/10k miles...

enough time for a dozen or so, from the release of rocks in tires at speed.

only ding since was while parked.

an attendant riding a lawnmower threw up a rock that dinged the front...

i was reading inside when it happened, and was not a happy camper....

get those mud flaps early.
