Source for Rock Guards?

Hi all,

I am totally new to trailers and this forum. I just purchased a 1977 24' Argosy for a friend. I am having the trailer shipped from New Jersey to Texas (I don't live in either state). In getting quotes, a shipper suggested I get rock guards for the front windows prior to shipping. That is the first I had even heard of them. I have looked all over the place on the Internet, and called a local (to me) camper/RV store. I am at a loss as to where to find these, what they cost, what the lead time is, and how difficult it is to install them. In the absence of rock guards, what else would suffice to protect the windows during transport (which will be hauled on an open truck)? I thought of getting a cover for the entire trailer, but the camping store rep said those generally aren't used for shipping.

Hi - welcome to the forum. The rock guard you need is available from Airstream or Airstream dealers who stock parts. I think it runs about 700.00. If you do a search, you'll find many threads about this topic. basically the wing windows on your argosy are no longer available. If a rock during transport cracks the window, you will be faced with a difficult replacement scenario - waiting for one to appear in a salvage yard or e-bay. You can see a 24 with new guards on in this thread Got a rock guard on!

Maybe you could gin up a cardboard and bubble wrap shield??
