Segment / Wrap Protector Hinge
My '91 Excella wrap protectors have a regular piano hinge where they attatch to the rivet line on the front of the trailer. the trailing edge is secured by 2 rubber receptacle /base mounted to body and locking screw on protector. After a 5600 mi trip these rubber receptacle and screw arrangement have given me so much trouble that I finally had to take them off and throw them inside the trailer. I'm going to replace the mounts with a more modern "3 point hold back system" as seen on current units.
Q. I noticed that the hinge on the new units is not a flat piano hinge, but an L shaped hinge that would get the protector out from the body more than a flat piano hinge. Where do I get new hinges?
The hold back mounts have holes that fit a 1/8" diameter rivet. IMO these could be too weak to serve the purpose and I may go bigger. Anyone have problems with the strength of the 1/8" rivets?
Thanks in advance.
