Question Installing Front Tinted Solar Rockguard

Hello, I have received my front tinted Solar Rock Guard for the front windows of my 1972 31ft international. The current one on there is the clear plastic one that is all busted up. By looking at the tinted one that arrived it looks similar to install. Can the tinted one pretty much use what holes are already drilled, basically taking over where the other rockguard exists. Has anyone installed one as a replacement. What type of a job am I looking at? Thanks in advance for any help.

Rockguard late style on and early trailer

I have the same problem. New guard on an old style trailer. I removed the old one and placed the new one where I thought it might go. It appears to me the new one will have to be mounted higher above the existing window mount. Putting the new one in the old holes won't work. It will hit the drip flange on the window hinge. I'm installing mine Monday so wait a couple of days and I'll let you know just how it fits. Crawfish boil tomorrow so the installation will have to wait until Monday.

Thanks for the information, I'm waiting patiently, I think that I'll be working on it another week or two, so let me know.

Question Rockguards

Are the window covers called rockguards?
What are the front fender covers called?

I think I have seen a number of different window rockguards on varius Airstreams that I have noticed. There seems to be a number of styles and even materials. Are most of these things factory parts? or after market products.

Was there one made of aluminum, and h0w would I goabout buyig the right one for a particular model? And did the shape of the front of the Airstream trailers change many times over the years?

Mine was the aluminum one on the front of a '77 Excella 500. I never found out if it was fabricated by one of the first owners or purchased from somewhere. I am willing to bet it was fabricated by someone with aluminum fabrication experience. The solar guard type of rock guard looks plenty neat and that is the way I would go. Try Inland RV in CA. They are listed in the vendor forum.

The one that I have on there is clear, original. The tinted one I ordered from http://www.inlandrv.com they have a lot of parts and you can view the parts online, but order over the telephone. I figured the tinted one helps to dress up the front of my airstream. I believe, but you might want to check, that the one that I have fits from '69 forward. Have a great day.

Rock Guard

My 79 31 ft is equipped with the aluminum window guard and a full width guard bhind the propane tanks.

I was told by an "Expert" that the trailer is equipped for the Alaska Highway.

Gordon,
Do you have a front picture of your aluminum rock guard over the window?

Craig:

I can't get at my trailer till the middle of May as it is 500 miles north of here.

The design looks the same as the plastic ones.

Question Battery compartment

Gordon Watt
Just a quick question..Where is your battery compartment located?
The usual spot is up front but, with that full skirt rockguard, I didn't see any door.
Just wondering, if you don't mind my asking..
ciao

Rock Guard/ Battery Boxes

The two battery boxes are behind the rock guard which is easily removed unscrewing two wing-nuts (no pun intended) and lifting the guard off two pins.

I was told the trailer is equipped for the Alaska Highway.
