Plexi front window Stone Guard

Mu subject stone guard is scratched and shows a PO club number into the plexi. I do not like the idea of spending many hundreds to buy a new assembly.
Could this be painted or somehow tinted (perhaps both sides) so as to not see this? I do not care if I can see through it as it will always be opened when parked.

Thanks

If you're mechanically inclined, you can simply buy a piece of smoke color plexiglass, open the rock guard (off the trailer), and replace it. It should cost much less than a new center rock guard.

I have a 1989 AS Excella 29. If yours would fit my unit, I would be pretty interested. Perhaps we could compare dimensions?

The ad is for a "ISO" rock guard. He doesn't have one, and is looking for one.

Try Plexus

If you go to a motorcycle shop and buy some Plexus. It's used to clean and polish helmet wind screens. It might work. I've had great luck with it. I just cleaned my stone guards with it. Good luck

I have tried Novus (all three strength levels) and it cleans and polishes fine. But, it does not remove the scratches nor the white appearance in the plexi.
I have used both Plexus and Novus on my cycle windscreens and they worked quite the same.

I was wondering how you were doing with your 29. I'm still searching but my white box will do until the right rig pops up.

I replaced the plexi in my first Airstream. A few pop rivets and screws, a little caulk, some sailor talk (well, maybe not you), and you're good to go. Mine was about 1/2" over half a full sheet. I went to a glass supply place and they cut it for me, not the rounded corners. I did the corner cuts at home with a jig saw. I was able to sell both drops on Craigslist so my cost wasn't that bad. It came out just fine.

Still toying with all the suggestions and ideas. My local (tiny town) auto glass shop will only sell me a whole sheet. That puts it up near the cost of a new one from AS.
So, looking at painting with Krylon's Fusion spray paint. Not sure it would match, but it would look better than currently.
Good luck in your AS quest!

Hi

To add further confusion:

If you have any choice at all, you don't really want Plexiglass. You want Lexan. The difference in strength is significant. I have no idea which one JC supplies on a replacement order.

Yes, I'm sorry. I meant Lexan in my questions.

Yes, mine was Lexan also. I live in a small town also. Even the bigger town I'm close to didn't have anything. I ended up buying mine 200 miles from home when I was there on other business. I had to buy a full sheet also and the place cut it to order. Apparently Lexan is hard to come by in small towns because, like I said, I sold my cut off drops proportionally cost wise to the whole sheet and the folks were very glad to get them. By picking it up when I was in town on other business and selling the drops it kept my cost reasonable.

That's the most economical source I've found and I'll be getting a full sheet to do all three. I was surprised to find only 1/8" in mine after disassembly but it answers the problem of forming the side units. They roll it to ship larger peices so it is flexible.

OEM material is plexiglass.

Lexan is much better, though more expensive.

Lexan

Lexan is the BEST for your project! Be sure to order the scratch resistant product. Lexan is up to 5 times as strong as plain Plexi. After all you want what protects your glass the best! Great thing it is the center panel that needs replacing as it is difficult to bend for side curved windows, but can be done. Good luck! Ed

I couldn't find anyone on ebay to quote a sheet over 48". Mine was like 48 1/2". If it's under 48 X 48 then ebay is a viable source.
