missing front cover

I just started restoration of a 66 overlander twin. I posted a couple pics of the exterior. I am tryingto find out what kind of cover should be on the front window. What is left looks to be plastic similar to the roof vent. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Tom,

Typically, the front window will have a plastic rock guard installed over the glass. The guard is not required, but is desirable. Many vintage Airstream owners do not care for the look, and end up removing them. I believe InlandRV sells them.

Tom

My 63 had a slick aluminum framed cover over the front window. I was able to take it apart, polish the frame, and insert new tinted Lexan. It now functions as a quite effective rock guard for the front glass window, and in it's opened position, it makes a very nice shade screen.
The frame is made from common aluminum angle.
