Manufactured and Installed Window Rock Guards

After replacing the front driver side curved window assembly, I decided to manufacture and install rock guards on both front curved glass windows on my 1988 25' Excella. I completed the installation just yesterday and the guards look pretty nice. I used .062 thick, clear polycarbonate sheet material for the guards . The sheet size that I used is 2' x 4'. I designed and manufactured 4 mounting brackets for each window which I attached to the window frames with pop rivets. The guards are held in place with # 10-24 stud screws and acorn nuts. I made the mounting brackets of aluminum bar stock, .375" thick x .750" wide x 2.500" long. The mounting holes in the polycarbonate guards are lined with brass grommets. I had never machined polycarbonate material before and was a little apprehensive in doing so, but found it to be easy to saw and drill with sharp tools. I say again "sharp tools". Anyone interested in this project may request from me, detailed drawings of the bracket assembly.

Nice job Pete. Did you need to heat and bend the material or was it flexible enough on it's own ???

No. The material is thin enough to form around the window curve but firm enough to resist deforming during travel. However it can be heated and formed I am told.

I suppose you have had a couple of miles to run your install. How are they holding up? any issues with wind vibration?

Rock Guards for front windows

I apologize to all for not posting the result of my effort to construct window rock guards for the curved windows on my trailer. The construction went well but the result was not good. The material was too thin and was not resistant to the wind during travel. I have not made further attempt to correct this problem but did consider adding a metal support rail around the edge of the polycarbonate material for strength and also add a few more mounting brackets .
