OK, so we're back to my original statement in post#4? The polycarbonate, in thinner sheets can be used in the wraparound, newer rock guards, without heating and make the curve in a cold bend.
Incidentally, I don't think any drilling is required in the newer ones. I believe they just slip in the frame with an end removed and are held, floating, with window screen spline.
