I found the rubber hold down broken today. If you look at the last picture in post 19 you will see my hold down bracket.

I think it is incorrectly installed and puts too much stretch strain on the rubber handle.

Can someone post a detailed picture of where this bracket is supposed to go? Including the rivet locations?

Thanks

Safari Tim.

Your right. That installation is not correct.

See the attached photo.

Check out the change in color from one side to the other of the stripes.

Thanks Andy.

Only one rivet is needed? It's placed in the center of the bottom frame?

Safari Tim.

One rivet is enough. It is in the center of the bottom frame.

A word of caution.

Don't hit the plastic with your drill bit. It could crack the plastic.

Safari Tim.

Not too big of a problem.

Take the Rockguard off. Level it where the crack is located.

"Carefully" inject into the crack, a plastic solvent, such as IPS # 4, using a small syringe and needle. Use a very small amount.

Do it 3 or 4 times. Let it set up overnight.

Invert the Rockguard, and do the same thing on the opposite side.

That will fuse the plastic back together, and will look ok.

Most importantly, it will stop the crack from spreading without having to stop drill it.

Ah, such is life with an Airstream.

Always something to do.
