New-used purchase

I'm in the process of purchasing my first airstream/camper. Totally new to this. What do I need to look for good/bad? Thanks. Chuck.

1). Get the size and type you really want right away. I hear many who say the first one they bought was too small. It’s a big investment so do it right the first time. It’s less expensive in the long-run.
2). Spend time researching the right vehicle to tow it. Think carefully about your towing needs and where you will be towing. How much you will tow it.
3). Think carefully about what kind of weight distribution hitch will do the job for you. Don’t take the dealer’s word for it. They will try to sell you what they have in stock.
4). Expect to spend a good deal of money getting it ready to go camping. Figure about 2,000 maybe more in just getting things like hoses, surge protectors, sewage hoses, generators, towels, kitchen utensils, tools (yes you will need to fix things) etc. Some things you can wait on, others you can’t. I probably spent about 3,000. It will depend upon the type of camping you plan on doing. If you plan to do a good deal of boondocking you will probably spend more since you will need to be more self-contained. I see you live in Alaska. I can imagine lots of boondocking up there. But it will surprise you how much “stuff” goes into setting up the RV.

5). Have fun.

How much money do you want to spend? Lol Sorry, the post above got me thinking that way, but it’s kind of true. I spent about 20K in total to take my first Airstream adventure.
