Hitch Height

Question for those with more time with these, My 08 safari 28' has a top of ball height of 18 inches, the dealer set up my equalizer hitch with a ball height of 22 inches, does this seem right? I think it is putting too much weight on the truck and seems to bounce more than I would think it should, my tow vehicle is an f240 4x4 with the off road package, so it is stiff and higher than a normal f250. Any input would be appreciated

You need to be as level as possible.when hooked up,I think I would have to lower it to 18 then use your equalizer to hold it there.Dave

Level is the operative word here. The trailer MUST be level to distribute the weight evenly on both axles. Your 250 will probably need lighter WD bars, possibly 600#. What is the reciever height on the TV?

I believe the top of the hitch is 18", with the head in place it is at 22" to the top of the ball, with the trailer top of socket height being 18" I would think that 22" to the top of ball on the tow vehicle is too high, also the dealer installed it with 1,000 lb bars.

As others have stated, you need to get to the scales. But to get you going in the right direction, first you want the trailer to be as level as possible when connected to the TV. Unless the TV is squatting down 4" when connected, you need to lower the ball height. Second, I'm thinking those 1,000 bars are way to much. From what I have been reading here, a TV with stiff suspension, should have the 600 lb. bars. Also the bars should be level with the trailer when connected. JMHO
