just traded my safari in on a ceder creek fifth wheel. I will miss the Stream but I just could not deal with the space limitations any longer. We are getting close to going full time and the AS just was not going to cut it. I mean this thing has thermo pane windows, fireplace, full size refrigerator , central vac. a full living room and king size bed. all this for about the price of my AS. Now I know it will not be around for 20 years, but than neither will I, so its one less thing my family will have to get rid of, plus since I am spending all my money thats 2 things they will not have to worry about! Thanks for all the advice and conversations I have had for the past year.

Just because you don't own an A/S, anymore... doesn't mean you can't contribute... there's plenty of vintage owners who post here...

I have hauled many Cedar Creek trailers from the factory in Indiana to dealers all over the country.
They seem to be one of the better trailers. May well last that 20 years and more, after all it is an aluminum frame trailer.

I can understand your choice. I love my 65 22' Safari but I saw the inside of a 26' 5th wheel the other day and wow! I had bump outs and seemed like 3 time the living space. Not the same as a vintage Airstream but very impressive for the short haul. Best of luck....Tim

We saw a friend's 38' 5th wheel toy hauler yesterday - it was absolutely crazy! HUGE inside, bathroom as big as the one in our house, big bedroom, heavy wood everywhere, big screen TV. Unbelievable how much space that thing had inside, plus room for their bikes/atvs/etc. I can see why people decide to move up to something like that instead of the tube (but I still love my 'tube')!

well after spending 5 days at disney in the new 5th wheel I can make these observations.
1.my truck still gets 11 MPG towing the 40' 5th wheel
2.as I sat in my recliner watching the 42" flat screen with the fire place glowing and my dogs sleeping on the sofa I wondered why AS stopped making slide out units.
3. My wife and I could both get in the shower and it did not leak
4. the king size bed was a pleasure to sleep on
5. the 18 CF refrig. could hold a weeks worth of food
6. the ducted air cond. was almost silent
7. we never had to look for a place to store anything
8. all cabinets and drawers are real wood
9. remote leveling, slide out, awnings and lights.
now I am not putting AS down as I loved ours for what it was, but being that my 5th wheel and my safari had a similar window sticker why does AS feel none of these features are important enough to add. I know by now most are just dying to type things like " it will not be around 20 years from now" Like I said before ,neither will I, but while I am I want comfort. Yes my new trailer has some QC issues but most of the items were caused by foot traffic as Cedar Creek used it as a show pony for three shows here in Florida. My AS had issues from day 1 and only had foot traffic at the dealer. Well thats my first camping impression. I will be more than happy to post things that go wrong as they occur.

Bob, glad that you are loving your new 5th wheel....but I know what you are waiting on this too... but after Hurrican Katrina we lived in our 31' super slide out and before then we thought it was also the best thing since sliced bread.....but.......after having really lived in it I would NEVER buy another boxed trailer again. However we did not go new with the AS we went vintage as in 1974 and even with all of the leaks and the complete reno that we have done to the outside we have never had as many issues with the QC as we did with the 31'. But everything you say does have a truth to it also as in lots and lots of room and comfort but I would never give up my AS for another. And I do get your point about the 20 year thing that may or may not apply to you but I am hoping to be here for more than 20 and I hope that my "whitie" is here along with me on many many miles of trails! My wife and I have a 93 HR Alumalite 34 foot middle bath back bedroom. We are second owners. Great trailer. At 17 years old there are no QC issues and the trailer has all the room you could possibly need. Solid oak cabinets, large wardrobe, nice big bedroom with all kinds of interior storage. Tank indicators are somewhat questionable and AC is average but its a great unit and only weighs 6,800 dry. I still want an AS though and I am looking. Im going to take a look at those Cedar Creeks though and see what Bob has. Sounds like he loves it! Nothing like a trailer you love to use.

wow.

cedar creed makes a really nice 5er, i've got many friends with them.

they ALL envy the outside appearance of the 34 stream but not ONE of them wants one.

the space INSIDE is the major issue.

and i DO think the CC units will still be in service at 20 years.

main thing i notice is camping in wind.

stream=tranquility and CC=rock/roll and that old mobile home shimmy in high winds.

the other issue is towing in wind,

stream=rock solid straight and CC=lean/wiggle and shudder.

of course storage is major, tank capacities better, ISLAND kitchens are cool and slides make it massive inside.

enjoy the cedar creek, they are keepers.

but for LOTS of travel or LONG distance towing the tube still wins.
