Valve Stems

We are getting ready for a trip to South Dakota and had the tires checked for proper even pressure. Seems when they put the wheel liners on they should have put extenders on the valve stems. They were worn about a third through. He couldn't even reach them to check the air One more thing to keep a check on.

Valve stems

Good point~
Also might add this info..last fall I had 4 new tires(245X75X16 E )installed on my Burb. A few weeks later, I was getting ready to leave for a trip..Notice my right rear was down quite abit..Drove over to my local tire shop and, found out that they had installed the wrong valve stem in the wheel..It was one for passenger tires and, at 80 lb of pressure would've blown out. They changed all valves ~ to spec.~ You just never can tell these days...

valve stems

I attended a seminar at the North American RV Rally and Bob Livingston warned about rubber valve stems. They are only rated to 65 psi and the higher load range tires call for 80-85 psi. He said to make sure the valve stems are the metal type. There were some real horror stories by people who bought new tires that were installed with the rubber valve stems.

valve stems

I just checked out my valve stems. They are rubber. These are on my new 2002 Safari. Apparently they were put on by Airtream at the factory. The tires are Goodyear Marathons ST205175R15's.
The Max Press. Rating is 65psi. Should I replace the stems?

Brian, My understanding is that the rubber valve stems are okay for tires rated to 65psi. The metal type are required for tires rated over 65psi. You should be okay.
