Split Rims 1964 Overlander

We just replaced the tires & rims on our most recently acquires AS. Is there any reason the rims shouldn't go to the scrapyard?
I was told that not many people have the equipment to change tires on these rims so we switched to older Chevy rims. I'm not well informed about tires and wheels. So I don't know if everyone is steering clear of split rims or not. The tires are toast.

Split rims on trailer wheels went by the wayside by 1970 or earlier. I recommend you scrap them. I just scrapped one split rim wheel we found in my sons 69 Globetrotter in the spare tire tray underneath. Mounting tires on split rim wheels can be dangerous.

Split rims are old school which is cool; however they are inherently dangerous and should be rendered nonfunctional IMO. I'd then dispose of them in the nearest steel recycle bin.

Junkyard rims are no less dangerous on the3 Airstream. Be careful. A new rim, a correct rim, is less that 45 dollars.

I have had Split Rims on numerous vehicles. Not many can or will work with them!! If done properly no issues, if not done properly ...................... DAMN!
I just chose 7-14.5 Tires for my wheels, why not stay as close as you can to original but maybe consider ditching the "split rims"!

Each wheel should have a rating of at least 2600 pounds each.

Auto wheels, never reach that rating, and should not be used.
