Spare tire
Has anyone purchased and installed a spare tire and holder. I need a source for the same. Any info will be appreciated.

I have not installed one but as I understand the process you cut out the belly pan section between the A frame, waterproof the area well, and attach the cutout section to the bottom of the floor.
I will follow this thread for my own information. Hopefully some better instructions will be posted.

Installing Airstream's spare tire carrier, is an easy task.
Carefully, cut out the underbelly metal, that's within the A-frame, that's underneath the floor.
Reistall that removed section of metal. to the bottom of the floor.
Seal all the edge seams, with Vulkem sealer.
Install the tire carrier, in the holes that already exist.
Then, have a cool one, well maybe right now, a warm one.
The hardest part is cutting the aluminum underbelly correctly, so that the same piece will fit immediately above the place you cut it from.

I'd really like to get my spare out of the truckbed and back onto the trailer (a p.o. had welded holder to the rear bumper which I promptly removed before renovating the bath). My problem is that both rear bellypan and bottom of hitch assembly drag a bit when backing into my driveway and I'm concerned that a proper tire carrier will also drag or maybe even prevent me from backing in altogether. How low do these things ride below the trailer (or just post a picture, etc). thanks

The only part you maybe could drag, is the bootom of the tire carrier that's just below the front of the shell.
But, your Airstream may be setting too low. Have you checked the suspension system to make sure that it's supporting the coach properly, or have the rubber rods given out.

The spare tire carrier is higher than the base of the tongue jack. If the tongue jack clears without dragging, so will the spare tire.

Clearance
Is there a recommended clearance for a spare tire mounted below the a-frame?
Mine is 9" and I'm wondering if that is a little low.

Not if the axle is in good condition.

Thanks
Thanks, Andy.
The axle is 3 years old, bought from someplace called Inland RV by the previous owner. I hear they're pretty good.

They try, very hard, but as with many things in life, not perfect.
Don't worry about the spare, it's just fine.

Do you think this would work on a Minuet, given that it is not as wide as a regular Airstream? How much would it add to the tongue weight? Is that a concern?

The added tongue weight for a Minuet, might be 25 to 30 pounds.
Certainly, nothing to cause any concern.

Would this fit on the A-frame of a Minuet? The Minuet is not as wide as the regular Argosy - does this mean the frame is different as well? Not worried about the ground clearance - 'cause we're riding high with the new axle...
